Any maps in waiting?
Am I right in thinking that Demigod maps involve a lot of 3DSMAX or something along those lines?
I'm just wondering if anybody has already created a map model that's just waiting to be "Demigodised"?

Yes, but it uses Granny, not 3DSMax.
And nope, no map waiting, first Granny is supposed to be expensive, second maps take a long time to make. I hope there will be some sort of export tool for 3DSMax though because it's cheaper and more modders have experience with it, but no word from GPG (duh) on this.
the DGmod.com group will have some maps out shortly after the 1.2 release, we have already got new models into the game, but we are hoping that 1.2 will bring out an scmap (terrain editor) otherwise we will just build our own.
Granny is just an exporter, you need to make the models in 3Dsmax first, then export them using granny, granny itself cannot be used to create models.
Good luck to you and the other modders. I hope that it is not too awfully hard to get your models and maps into the game.
I guess the awnser is,
Modders have maps waiting, but there are no official maps being worked on at the time being occording to Frogboys big FAQ journal.
Yes this is why I see 3rd party maps as so much more important.
Not only is the budget for new maps apparently very high according to Stardock (I think Brad wrote somewhere), but also they really present a way for 3rd party maps to really make a name for themselves. With something like Supreme Commander ofcourse, hashing out a playable map is simple, and for a dev mapper, they can chuck a ton of maps out in relatively short time, and 3rd party maps are really diluted.
I am personally really craving some more 2/3 per team maps. I'd say the maps right now really serve 4/5 player teams much better overall.
I wonder if somebody could make a game mode that deactivates certain areas of the map on a rotation so that larger maps can serve smaller player numbers. Also I guess this could encourage larger maps to be built with the knowledge that they scale down well for smaller games. Hmmm, time for a new thread!
Well my experience with making maps is that optimization is a bitch and that we should be thankful if some half-decent 2vs2 will be available that are playable by everyone. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of new maps, but between all the enthusiasm and great ideas many people forget that it's actually a lot of work and a lot will go wrong usually.
