Offline player wishing to play online

I apologize ahead of time for this long-winded post.

I've been playing Demigod since its release, and have played online a couple of times, but as usual I was turned off and have been playing offline since then.

Maybe I should back up a bit and give some history of my online gaming and gaming in general:

I've loved all video games for as long as I remember (I'm 35 and really do not remember a time that I didn't understand the concept of a video game).  I've never been very good at them, but I have always loved to play.

My first real experiece with online play was with a 1st gen Xbox, and I was playing with xlink.  At the time my chosen genre was fps.  And always death matches.  And I quickly found a group of people to play with.  We founded the misfits clan.  I only now realize how lucky I was to find these people as I didn't realize how rare they were.  What I mean is that nobody cared about winning or losing, or how good anybody was.  We all just had lots of fun playing.  In other words it wasn't competative gaming.  Even when we did play team games like ctf, there was no in-fighting in the team because someone wasn't pulling his/her own weight from inexperience or what have you.  It didn't matter.  There was friendly, playful ribbing but when it came time for the next game, we gladly kept the same teams because again: we weren't playing to win.  We were playing to have fun.

So many of the founding members of that clan, including myself, went our separate ways and I actually stopped gaming for a short while.  I got into the rts genre and have been playing those games almost exclusively now.  I'm actually worse at rts than I am at fps, but I think I enjoy them more.  Anyway I tried War3 on battlenet for a while, 1 on 1 or ffa usually.

I wouldn't call battlenet a friendly place.  More than once I was told that I simply shouldn't play.  (This should give a hint at how bad I actually am at gaming).  It wasn't fun to play like that.  I like playing with other people but I can't stand that sort of attitude.  Even on the few games that I won I was just accused of cheating somehow.  It seemed that there wasn't anyone there that could just have a friendly game.  So that ended battlenet.

Fast forward now to a few months ago when I tried Demigod.  I absolutly loved (love) the game.  Its really one of those "simple to learn, lifetime to master" games.  I played for a couple of weeks offline, and chose a favourite demigod to play (Torch Bearer).  I gave online a try.

Now I might as well copy and paste the paragraph I wrote above about battlenet.  Except this time it was perhaps worse as all the griping came from my teammates.  Granted, I am an awful player and I'm sure that I am the reason we lost.  Every time.  My timing was off, I didn't understand a lot of the intricacies of the game and so I became a target for easy gold and experience.  You can imagine the response from my teammates I'm sure.

My problem is that I haven't the time to practice enough to get to a competative level of play online.  Nor do I really care to.  I don't care if I'm good at the game, or if I lose 85% of the time.  I play to have fun, and to me that doesn't necessitate winning.

I guess my reason for posting this is to just find out if there's anyone out there who would just like to play a few games now and again, purely for the fun of it.

Sorry for the novel.

Riao -- There are others out there like you.

I recently posted this:  http://forums.demigodthegame.com/362095

...looking for some casual teammates who didn't care about winning/losing (too much) and just wanted to have some good times.  Got a decent response.  We're trying to organize some regular sessions:  Thursday and Saturday nights, especially.  Let me know if you're interested and I'll PM you the details.

Dear Riao,

im a 33 year old gamer too. I can see ur point! The CEO of Stardock introduced a programm in some of the other threads, this programm will arrange games with friends. Give this tool a try. https://www.stardock.com/products/readytoplay/

Suggestion: Play online (because its much more fun, and u will get better automatically)

Name ur game like ur intention: Just Fun No Skill  / from noob for noob /

use the Impuls Chat overlay in the game to ask for good players to play with u and help u

make friends with nice players and train with them

u see me online....call me or join my game...i play u with queen with which im horribly bad  :D

greets da micro....

Microstar I will take your advice and will try that Impulse ready to play app.

Going to add you guys as well.

I would like to learn more about the game, just talked to Nucleus recently through a PM.

I eventually want to get good but I like to have fun and play with people who are OK with mistakes being made.

Hey Raio, I feel the same way about a lot of online gaming, I want to play for fun, have some laughs, but some people can't allow their gaming to be less than deadly serious...but I keep at it. Come play with me sometime, I'm literally the same age as you and have more of an fps background too, and feel similarly about the online community here.

Not nessisarily because the people that he played against when he won only had a few games under thier belt.  The experience he talked about could have happened before the stats reset.

ha, my reply was meant to be a side-handed compliment to Riao's play the other night, as you can see that I was on the losing end in that battle.  i wasn't calling him a liar at all.

Hello all.. sorry I haven't been on.  I'm actually getting married at the beginning of October and I'm putting in extra hours at work for the expenses and the days off I do have are being increasingly occupied with planning.

To answer some projections, yes the awful experiences I spoke about were a while ago; not too long after the game's initial release.  Since then I have been playing with my brother offline, but mostly myself vs 2 hard cpu opponents.  It did take me a while to get used to playing against more 'human' playing styles that night.

I did have a great amount of fun playing and I intend to play more with you guys.  I'll hopefully have vent and a headset going by then (I may need some help with that  ).

BTW Ed Anger, yes great games.  I thought we played pretty well together once I got into it.  I made some stupid mistakes throughout but I think that they became less frequent as time went on.  Hey, at least I was able to recognise them!
