What version of Windows are you using?  This is a very common problem on XP x64, as Impulse is not designed for, nor supported on, that OS.

The way our MD5 system works (and this is an over simplication, I'll grant you, but it works for our purposes), is similar to taking a sentence, assigning number values to each letter (a=1, b=2, etc), and adding up the corresponding numbers to get a sum.  That's your "MD5" (though the real MD5 creates a much more unique signature than that).  Then tell someone that sentence, and have them write it down.  If they misspell something, then when they add up the digits from their setnence, it will have a different sum.

There are several reasons they could have misspelled it.  Maybe they can't hear very well (bad network cable).  Maybe there is someone between you and the person that has to examine the sentence to make sure there isn't a curse word before they relay it to you, and they might mispronounce something (firewalls, security software).  Maybe the person has dyslexia (bad RAM).

Firewalls and security software are the most common, so start there.  Try adding exceptions for Impulse in them, or temporarily disabling them and see if that help.

Next up is bad system memory.  Try scanning with something like Memtest86+ and see if maybe there's a hardware problem.  You may need to run it for a few hours for it to make it through a full pass.

Next, try connecting your computer directly to your modem.  A lot of routers can cause problems, and doing this will at least let us know where the problem lies.

Virtual Desktops was a great program.  I would like to hear the reason that it no longer seems available for Windows 7.

It doesn't work with the new taskbar, and there hasn't been enough demand for it to warrant an update.

ACtually it works quite well in W7 32 bit. not 64 tho. Control center also works on W7/32, not as well as on xp but it does what i need it to do.

I propose the reason there is no demand for it is SD has not created the demand. Yes you have to tell ppl about it and tell them how they must have it and why, this would be so easy to do,less than basic marketing. Look at the way body wash gels for men are flying off the shelf and you cant get ppl interested in SD VDM???  shame !!

hehe

Do a search for this kind of app and you get returns like bumptop and a raft of tother wannabes that cannot carry SD's lunch. I can start a petition in here if you llike and I'm tellin' you, you might be surprised. a little viral video and vwallah ~!

I have used SD and VDM since Its inception  and find it hands down the most consistently usefull program in SDs stable.

/end passionate rant

Thanks

I used it daily until my laptop got upgraded from Windows 7 32bit to Windows 7 64bit and it simply stopped functioning.  This is a productivity gorilla that was a huge benefit to how I worked daily.
