Achievement Unlockables

I know there are achievements that can be awarded for particular actions and gameplay situations done right through the game but when it comes down to it... bragging rights? I for one don't really play this game online that much-- I'm not aware of too many people that do and while I have done a great deal to gain most of them, I still think about "Why did I do this to begin with?"

I imagine what it would be like if there were significant achievements that actually unlocked themselves in the game and reward the player greatly. Several games outside of PC do this very well, I think about XBOX360's achievements handling it very well-- Mass Effect comes to mind and I've recently started playing Bully: Scholarship Edition, and it does the very same thing.

For Sins of A Solar Empire's case, how about unlocking some serious ships after proving one's worth through the game, or something of the like?

It may be a little much but I for one would really see an improvement on Sin's longevity (and I'm aware of the micro-expans coming out soon, but think about this for a minute...). Sins is a very long game to play through already but some rewarding incentive knowing I sat down for all this would be even cooler. I enjoy the game as is, but I thought about this today and I'm surprised I hadn't thought of this earlier!

Allow me to give you an example of what one of these achievement unlockables might be:

Insisting that these achievements are for serious, diehards-- consider that one of these achievements might be something like... playing as the TEC and having destroyed over 10,000,000,00 enemy ships out of the course of your entire gameplay accumutively. After having accomplished over the 10,000,000,000 enemy ship kill count, you'd be rewarded with an achievement called, I dunno, Commander's Bane or something like that. Where just after you've accomplished the said achievement, your TEC faction will now be enabled to construct a massive Fleet Ship or something, one with crazy capabilities, it wouldn't be invincible, but it would be a hefty reward after having accomplished such a daunting task.

I'm not one to push ideas out, but my idea out of this example would be that this particular Fleet Ship would be some maniacally endowed machine capable of holding fleets of bombers/fighters, multiple weapon systems and essentially be this juggernaut of the TEC fleet.

In short, I think this idea of achievement unlockables would be awesome! I'm looking forward to the micro-expans, but giving the players a little something in return for their dedication and continuous play out of Sins would be neat to have course if anyone else is willing to discuss upon this, please do, and some ideas would be nice!

I'm just saying... if I killed over 10,000,000,000 over the course of the gameplay I've done so far out of a siginificant faction (which I'm pretty sure IF I've kept count, I've met about half of that already) that a few achievements dedicated to this kind of diehard persistence which would unlock some crazy ships or capabilities would be pretty awesome. It just feels great that even out of the simplicity of enjoying a game, it still feels pretty darn good to be rewarded even more, reminding yourself why you want to keep on playing.

Probably not as crazy as you might think. Most people have probably already gotten a good portion of this, as long as they've played good matches with empires CONSTANTLY building and loosing ships.

Well, it's been proved many times before with other games that achievement rewards and RTS's don't mix.

Universe at War has a reward system, called badges. You get them via achievements for the three factions, and they grant bonuses like 5% decreased research time, slightly more health, etc. You can only equip 3 at a time though, so you don't have an absurd advantage over opponents.
