I gave up on this game- FREQUENT FREEZES!!!!

I have athlon64 3200+, 8600GT 256MB, 2GB RAM. Windows XP SP3.

The game frequently freezes, no matter what the graphical settings are, I can hear the hard drive working overtime all the time, when I want to exit the game it takes 4 minutes, everything is so slowed down, and THEN WHEN I EXITED THE GAME my entire computer is extremely slowed down for several more minutes.

How the hell can you release such faulty broken game?!

Do you have latest drivers?

Of course, and I googled this, it is the most commonly reported problem with the game, it's completely broken.

The bottle neck could be your video card: 8600GT 256 MB.

Which screen resolution do you play SINS ?

Try to close all other programs: antivirus etc.

Is your game fully updated? You need Impulse +  a valid CD key to get the latest updates. I have an inferior machine in most regards (8400M GS *cough cough*) and sins runs smoothly for me. I am on vista... but I doubt that would account for the difference.

Latest version is 1.17 for vanilla Sins btw

I have almost the same computer as you and I don't have much problems, it might be your processer that's doing it or you could try increasing your page file.

Check also sound drivers. Do you get sound stuttering and dropouts as the game proceeds?

Latest version of DirectX 9.0c.

For some reason the game seems to be creating giant files on disk which is why it takes so long to exit. This happened to me once with another game because of sound drivers.

Go to www.impulsedriven.com, and then download Stardock's Impulse. Register your game on there, and you will be able to download the latest update, 1.17.

Another thing to try would be to download the Demo from www.bigdownload.com, see if that will run. This site also has the version 1.05 patch I seem to remember.

"How the hell can you release such faulty broken game?! ... it's completely broken ..." The answer to this is no, the game is not broken. I had no problems with it on a XP system very similar to yours, nor any problem with it on my current Vista system.

Those "giant files on disk" wilebill mentions may either be the autosaves the game creates every 15 minutes or game recordings.

its probably your ram. Sins uses alot of ram. on large maps it can use quite a bit of 4 gigs. you may need more than 2 gigs of ram to run sins smoothly.

Yeah, top pretty much got it. I've got an Inspiron Laptop with 2 gigs of ram. I have to lower the quality to sustain playability in later stages of the game.

The game is nt broken, you just need to have some patience, and maybe upgrade your computer.

I agree that it's probably his RAM. However I used to have only 1 gig of RAM, and was fine. Now I have 2 gigs, and it's better. He should be fine if his RAM is operating normally...

Your RAM might be faulty, this was recently a problem for me that caused issues like you are receiving, in another game.

EDIT: You might also try uninstalling, running a defrag, and reinstalling the game - it's possible you have file corruption.

My laptop specs,

Intel Duo T2350

2GB DDR2

Intel GMA 950 - Fear its, um, fearsome power!!11!

I play at all medium settings, though for the first couple of hours I can play at high, before the amount of ships forces me to downgrade settings.  This is against 4 hard level AIs.  The end game is laggy, but playable.  I do not experience anything like what your describing.

From what you describe, your PC is paging a lot.  What do you have running at startup?  My laptop is heavily tweaked (no OCing) to minimize the ram usage of Vista.  I also have only the default codecs (no 3rd party stuff) installed as some codecs can degrade perfomance in some of my games (ie, X3)  Before I play, I disconnect from the web and disable all security apps/scanners.  I run this laptop as lean as possible and it plays Sins quite nicely for me.

More info would be helpful.

I am having the same problem, at time in late game particuily when im assinging fleets the game just freezes up.  Sins is the only game that this happens in.

I uninstalled it, I will probably try to play it again after I buy a new computer although when I googled this I saw a post with PC specs far superior than mine with exactly the same issue.

Yep, tha game's engine is broken, it's worse than Supreme Commander, they should refund people.

Hortz you never said what version you are running..... I assure you the engine is not broke... its very scalable. My specs are similar to yours (excpet 3gb ram and a 8400M GS) and it plays perfectly smoothly.

Kaltes: to you too have you downloaded Impulse and installed the latest update for sins?

hortz... stop acting stupidly.

or this just might turn into a teachable moment.

I have this issue with mods, but vinilla is just fine for me. I'm pretty my troubles are with a RAM or driver issue though.

Yes I do have all the latest patches.  But Im with goafan77 I probably just need more RAM.  I dont know if effects any thing but im running a sound mod.

What kind of battles are you playing? 1v1 small fleets or 5v5 large fleets or anything like that? How much RAM do you have? Also, what graphics settings are you using? Taking texture resolutions down a notch can free up quite a bit of RAM.

i never have problems with slowdowns/freezes unless im playing mods, or this one map i have where someone re-created the entire universe from the game freelancer...

58 planets, 1155 gravity wells (its a massive map, lots of work went into it, but it was designed poorly... certain space stations in the game Freelancer are represented as GWs in their own right... nebulas in Freelancer are massive, so in this map they are represented with multiple UCGW's... but meh)

after i send out enough scouts, and i have explored about 60-70%, have most if not all AI slots filled, and have expanded into one or more other systems, then the game starts to lag for me

my comp is a Dell XPS 1730 Laptop with dual Intel Core 2 Duo T9300's at 2.50 GHz a piece, 4 GB DDR2 (i think), dual Ge-Force 8800M GTX Graphics Cards at with PhysX and SLi Tech 512 Mb a piece, 17" High Def Monitor with 1920x1200 resolution, running Vista 32-bit OS and DirectX 10.0

so yeah, unless i have the settings on high, and am playing a mod or that large Freelancer map, the only problem i ever have is that the first time i start it up after a long tme not playing it, it takes ages to load up, but i doubt thats to do with the program and more with the fact ill have other stuff going on (both my 200 Gb hard drives are pretty full atm, so im feeling sorry for my laptop...)

there could also be problems with your registry files, clogging up your computer... download CCleaner (google) and run it, it really boosts performance and will often clear GIGAbytes of scrap data off your hard drive. also running a virus check and ad-ware/spy-ware cleaner on your comp to clean away the cob-webs every once in a while is a great way to speed up your comp...

but yeah, the game isnt broken or buggy... 9 times out of 10, its your computer, not the game... make sure you are all up to date with all your drivers, and that you havent got a virus somewhere (or even your own virus checker/firewall) slowing your down. if you still have problems, contact support@stardock.com and get their help

Good Luck

I have a crappy Laptop and i have no problem running the game, Or have any lag Issues even on the bigger maps.

My graphics is Integrated, and its completly fine. The option settings are at Medium, but it is fine on High also.

Can't run with bloom enabled though lol.

 -Using vista SP2

Lol I usually push my computer and Sins to the limit

every thing high, bloom, 30k fleet per person, 200 galaxy maps rofl, 10 players rofl and only using windows xp sp2 with 2gb ram

no lag there no sir.

I play this game on a laptop with only 1 GB and an embarrassing Intel chipset graphics card, and it runs great.
