Command & Conquer 4 is announced!

This will be the final part in the RTS tiberium universe, but the tiberium universe itself may live on....

They seem to have changed alot in that they're incorporating RPG features like buying upgrades and stuff for EXP points you get everywhere (SP, MP etc.).

C&C has been dead for years, and frankly I've stopped caring about the crap they're churning out.

The last good C&C game was Red Alert 2.  Generals completely lost the spirit of C&C and was nothing more than a generic run-of-the-mill RTS, and they've been forgettable shadows of their predecessors ever since.

Nah, CnC 3 was an excellent game, it just had an awful matchmaking system... *cough cough*

you lie, i wasted 100 bucks on that game :(

I bought CnC 3 for the Xbox 360.
I couldn't even sell it on Ebay, no one would buy it - not even for a $1.00.

Bah, what a great news. :P EA is killing this franchise.

yeah for me Red Alert 2 was the last good C&C as well ... never played any game as long as this one.

all later games were only "who can build tank factory and some units the fastest" and no strategic elements at all -.-V

Sadly that EA take over Westwood's child so damn bad.

The only C&C that was really good was he original imo, later ones all disappointed me. They missed the 'oooh and aaah' factor that the first one had.

C&C is just not about strategy, which is a major flaw in a strategy game. This has become a franchise that I could not care less about.

This.

I've no idea what people find fun about these games anymore.

C&C3 had a fair amount of counter units.  Nothing as extreme as four firebats, a bunker, and an SCV taking out 100 zerglings, but it had a good counter system nonetheless.  I really think that saying CnC3 had no strategy is like saying SC had no strategy because it was all zergling rushes.

I would say that CnC3 had more strategy than Warcraft 3, which was much more about brute force and micro than strategic decisions.

It just had an awful, awful, awful matching system and in the end there was no way reasonable way to actually play the game.

RA 1 was the last good C&C, you people are nuts. The series died at Tiberian sun's god awful release.

I have to disagree.  I disliked Red Alert 2, as it was way too corny.  C&C 3 was actually pretty good in comparison.  Tiberian Dawn was the best one for me though, and the Covert Operations expansion was awesome.  Red Alert 1 was pretty good too.  I hope C&C 4 is good, but I will see.  After wasting my money on C&C 2 and Red Alert 2, I am more cautious of buying these games.  I just lvoed the original C&C and Red Alert so much, I figured the sequels would be good too.  I was wrong.

Don't you people think that Red Alert 3 is the best C&C game so far?

Many say that C&C Generals was the best C&C game. Probably so because they didn't have the hindering MCV mechanic which doesn't work so good today.

I'm not surprised that EA is going in a new direction with C&C 4 as StarCraft 2 and DoW 2 will have the competetive gamers in their hand. People will try C&C 4 but few will stay. It will almost certainly be a failure as far as MP is concerned.

I could wish for EA not to screw it up, but I have lost faith in them.

Seems they are rushing it with a bunch of new gimmicks to try and grab some of the people they have already lost by departing from true C&C.

Still, as much as I know I will detest their gamespy matchmaking system, and the silly new gimmicks... I will be getting it cause I loved the franchise since the first game and need to see how it ends >.<

I have a questionable love/hate relationship with EA now.

Generals was good... but it wasn't C&C. It just had that name so that it would sell.

C&C 3 is all right... But EA sucks. They promised a patch to 360.. and a week before supposed patch release they tell that "ain't gonna happen"

RA3? I totatlly wasted my money on it. My bro likes it but i don't like it at all. Its not C&C... Its some sort abomination.

Haven't tried Kane's Wrath but if i find it on sale or cheap anyway, i'll get it.

C&C 4 and its "new" features... I wish i'd belive in something so that i could pray it to stop the project. The moving base sounds interesting... but I KNOW EA is going to screw it up. I just know. And RPG features? I'll simply post this and sign out, i don't want to say anything about this....

I absolutely loved the first two C&Cs and still boot them up. Next three were also great, even if Generals was basically a new series.

C&C3 though... Story is pretty good, even with their rendition of the Scrin. +1 for Kane still being a Magnificent Bastard. Acting was half-way decent. Music might as well have not been there at all. Gameplay was absolutely horrendous. As GDI or Nod, you spammed T1 tanks or T3 heavies. As Scrin, you spammed T3 heavies or T4 Motherships.

Red Alert 3 has been a bit of a surprise though. Gameplay isn't bad, although it's still just as fast paced. Story is less than stellar, though.

Edit: Amusing and not so amusing things in the article.

2 extra players!

As a nice side effect, since C&C4 requires players to be online all the time in order to prevent cheating, we'll be shipping without any form of DRM.

Please tell me this doesn't mean what I think it means. E.G. that you have to be online to play SP.

While we are very proud of the work done [for] console versions of our previous titles, we are developing Command & Conquer 4 exclusively for the PC.

Thank you. Halo Wars had the makings of a good RTS, but was frustratingly simple.

C&C 3 was okay. The story and units were really cool, but i didn't like the breakneck speed and the big jumps in AI difficulty (Normal was really tough compared to easy).

People, stop whining about this. If EA truely wanted to kill C&C, they would have done it long ago. Some titles may be better than others, but it's better than nothing.
