Latest version of Fences?

A few months ago I downloaded and installed Fences v0.96.1533 beta on my WinXP machine.

I love it. However, it seemed a bit too unstable to keep on my machine. I was getting weird freeze-ups and errors, so I uninstalled it. Is there a more recent version, that hopefully has fixed some of these bugs?

Thanks for a very cool tool,

~Michael.

Something more "cool" than that - ObjectBar...

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a newer version of Fences beyond .96 - I've had problems with the Frences not coming back after being hidden or the titles not appearing on the the Fences after a period of time.  It may have something to do with Windows 7 - it has a built-in wallpaper changer and I don't think it plays well with Fences.  Although it's supposed to be Win7-compatible.

But we're dealing with betas and release candidates.  Hopefully the real thing will work better.

I too await general release of Fences. Fences solved a perennial problem for me. I have many icon's on my screen which I would arrange for easy visual location and use. But I present a lot in my work so the change from one resolution to annother for different projection equipment always messed up this visual arrangement. fences solves this. So I click update frequently when I start up my laptop to see whether a new version is ready as I too have odd problems @ startup and close. The close down process often stops with a message which paraphrased says Fences cannot respond due to windows sutting down. This behaviour is taking place on a Lonovo T61 uaing usually trusty XP. I tried installing ObjectBar several times without success before trying Fences. I may need to do this again if Fences is going to be the beta that never was released.

I too love Fences.

Surprised to see no update (been a few months since I booted Impulse). Isn't it supposed to go Release in August? As for bugs, I've haven't seen any, or very few that I recognized as being Fences-caused or contributed to. I don't use Windows7, tho', but Vista Ultimate.

I'm pretty stingy when it comes to shelling out dosh for system utilities, but Fences was definitely on the list of "Yes, I'm buying this!".

Updates to Fences will be coming, but it is not top priority at the moment.  Keep in mind that Fences is a beta product, and will not always perform 100% for everyone.

I also enjoy the fences product and look forward to a stable general release. BUT to let the developers know and I have seen a few others reporting the same problem.

If I do any customization then do a double click to hide then double click to return Windows explored starts failing over and over and over. I at the minium have to restart my OS (windows vista 64) a few times I had to uninstall and reinstall. I enjoy the product so much I am willing to leave the product on my system even with all the restarts and reinstalls.

My system

Windows Vista Home Premium

service pack 1

INTEL Core2 Duo E6550 2.33 2.33

2 gb

64 bit OS

I would like to here if any others are having the same problem

Thank You

Any way to add dual screen handling?

Since I use Fences, I can't have a different wallpaper on the 2nd screen

It would be cool to let Fences out of the wallpaper stuff and let the user handle them

the way they want. At least as an option.

I have experienced none of the symptoms described while using Fences with Windows XP. On Windows 7 (RTM, Enterprise), Fences do work quite perfectly, on dual screen setup and everything - provided I give up running Aero.

With Aero, the icons get confined into designated areas, however, the fences themselves are not displayed. Also the double-click feature does not hide the icons.

Needless to say, whenever the fix to this comes, it won't be soon enough. ;-)

Damjan

End of DamjanPavlovec's quote

I have found Fences to work perfectly with Aero enabled on Win 7 from the first time I installed it in July

There is not an entry in the history to know what has changed with the latest version of Fences - that being said, I can speak from experience that Fences still locks down the wallpaper.

I have found that if you open the Display Properties dialog and click ok without changing anything - that the desktop is refreshed and the wallpaper is able to break free of Fences temporarily. Someone hooked me up to Wallpaper Cycler from NuonSoft and I am just waiting with baited breath for it to work with Fences (would baited breath be more acceptable if you chew gum?)

about 10 days ago, I started getting a "Registration failed" popup on my screen. Didn't know what it was for at first, but I finally tracked it down to Object Desktop. I looked at the errorlog, & it's showing that every time it runs, or checks for updates, it pops up the following message, in some form:

-- [9/3/2009 7:16:15 PM] ----------------------------------------------------
Context: Updating ApplicationList XML: futurem
Message: Updated network xml did not have expected revision (retrieved 0 / expected 7)
Build #: 1273

I've checked to see if there's updates, haven't tried uninstalling yet, though if this persists without some sort of a fix, that will happen. Anyone else having a similar issue?

Windows XP Service Pack 3, before anyone asks

Rodlah: Try clicking on the Impulse Menu > Preferences and then hit the "Reset Data" button.

I have had fences on my computer for a bit now, and it was working fine, then Impulse indicated there was an update, so I installed, now it tell me my installation is corrupted and has lost its integrity, remove and reinstall, I have done this like 5 times now and no joy.. I loved the program... but now the fences will not unlock, if I move the mouse over them they dissapera, the icons dissapear, the text vanishes all sorts of crazy shit. I removed and searched for anything fences related on the drive and deleated...... Man I wish I never did the update.

Windows XP Pro, Med Center Edition.....

JSV2005: Sounds like the update is not removing/updating some files.  Try removing Fences and then making sure that all the files are removed from the fences install directory.  Something like Revo Uninstaller might also be the way to go.

I am having the same problem as jsv2005.  I have uninstalled rebooted and manually deleted all fences directories/files/xml and etc.  Then re installed and still the same thing.  I can not use anything on my desktop with fences installed.  The shame is that untill the new version everything on my pc worked great.  Wish I still had the old version!

JSV2005 and BasketWeaver: Please e-mail fencesbeta@stardock.com.  We may need to get some info on what's causing this.
