MyCOLORS glitch?

Applying custom themes and other 3rd party public domain themes

Hello,

I've installed the MyCOLORS app. provided by Dell (unregistered version). It's a very nice and usefull application I must say, however it seems that the only themes that it can manage are those provided by Stardock: unless I've missed something (please help), there's no way to register and manage any other themes created and published by others than Stardock... Since the application is launched by default (thus replacing what was there) from the personalize desktop contextual menu item, I find this to be very intrusive, as if Stardock wanted to monopolize and oblige us to BUY any theme we wanted to install, more over only those created by Stardock. Quite intrusive IMHO, since from then on I CAN'T install any free themes that are published out there.

Hopefully I've missed something, anyone?

Thanks in advance,
HawkFest, running under Vista32 Home Premium

No you're not missing anything, that's exactly what MyColors is - a program which Stardock provides for free to decrypt and manage the themes they create for it.  That's what it is, that's what it does. There are are 4 free ones here you can download if you like: https://www.stardock.com/products/mycolors/gallery.asp?p=thinkgreen&c=free

I'm not quite sure about this as I'm on XP, but maybe if it's doing that to you while you have a MyColors theme loaded you might make it stop by going into MyColors and applying the default "Windows Desktop" or such.  I'm kind of guessing there.  If that doesn't do it, someone who is more Vista-versed than I can get you fixed up.

You can have both MyColors and Windowblinds installed on the same machine, having one does not prevent the use of the other.  As Night Train has already said though, Windowblinds is required to run the non-MyColors Windowblinds themes (and MyColors must be installed to run the MyColors themes).

Suite manager does this for the Free suites. The programs necessary to utilize the skin's contained witin the suites must be installed proir to applying a suite.  Such as, Iconpackager, Windowblinds,DesktopX,CursorFX, etc..

My Colors is the For sale version of Suites, the Themes they offer For it are professionally built by Stadock, and coded to only work with MyColors. There are a few free themes offered in Impulse for MyColors.. But the majority of themes for free are Suites..

As for resetting back to the default Vista Desktop, Open mycolors and apply the Vista desktop. It should revert back to the defaults..

Hope this helps you..
