PlanetGen 4.0

Make your own planet surface images

For those who are wanting to make your own planet surface images, there's a good planet generator program here:
http://www.gharat.net/

It's upto version 4.0 now. I've been using it since v1.0, about 9 years. These are some I've done for my own system, done on PlanetGen v1.0

Ramasan

Verath

Alastria

Exo

Last one I set to grey-scale and messed with a few colors.

What is the maximum resolution of the generator? Can it make large textures? (2048x1024 and/or 4096x2048)?

Also, it seems very similar to the Photoshop plugin LunarCell hich also makes textures and clouds at any resolution you need. It's truly a device for the lazy. If you really want to make good textures, make them yourself, combine and mix, I always get good results when I create my own texture. I use it primarily to make wallpapers and Space Art, not for use in models or games like GalCiv2, . Although when I do use them in Galciv2, the textures look pretty nice.

Would it be possible to explain your method on the forum? I'm anxious to try it out on my Metroid mod.

My method of creating textures? Or his idea of making textures? Just download the programme to your PC and generate these textures.

PlanetGen can do upto 3072x1536 sized images.

I don't own Photoshop, but that plugin is something I'd love to try if I did.

Your method. I have Photoshop 3.0. Is that sufficient?

ProFantasy's Fractal Terrains has much more options than any plugins; all it does is planet surfaces.

For absolutely free artsy solutions -- go Gimp and its extensive library of Filters & what else, cuz that's where the real action is.

Sorry for the wait, Photoshop 3? That's really old, considering the newest version is 10 versions ahead. MY first Photoshop was 6, and I began doing these stuff when I had the 7th version, not sure all the filters and options that I use are available in v3.
