Temperature of Overclocked phenom

Hey all,

This is something I've been wondering about for a long time. For all you guys/gals who also own a phenom 940, could you please post your temperature below. Also, could you please specify the program you use to measure the temperature.  I run a phenom 940 overclocked to 3.61 Ghz.

After prime95 for an hour (large FFT), I get the following:

         - 53 degrees with Asus probe 2

         - 63 degrees with coretemp

The maximum CPU case temperature for the phenom is 62 degrees, so I'm on the safe side :)

Thanks!

Hello there. as a fellow overclocker i have to give some congrats to a nice OC on that phenom. I personally went with an intel q9550, so i apologize about this being off topic but i wanted to give some input. I would take readings from asus probe 2 with a grain of salt since ive read from numerous forums in the oc community (ocforums, com, overclocker.net to name a few) that the software is a POS and doesnt take temp readings from the on die thermo's. Also, using P95 for a stability testing, atleast for my intel quad, i found that running small FFT for 2+ hours got me higher temps than 4+hours of large FFT. I could be mistaken since ur on a amd platform. Use Coretemp and/or Realtemp for your readings since they seem to be the most accurate. But for the sake of posting temps, ill start off even tho its a q9550 and no phenom..,

Prime95 Small FFT for 4 hours: (just gonna give hottest of the 4 cores)

q9550 @ 4.01ghz, 1.32v (bios) Vcore        Heatsink: Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (lapped)

Coretemp:   Idle - 28 celcius

                  Load - 54 celcius

Realtemp:   idle - 28 C

                  load - 53 C

P.S - is ur cpu a 45 nm phenom II 940 or the previous generation?

Hey Heinekus,

Thanks for the response and tips! My CPU is the Phenom II 940 and I'm using an Arctic Freezer 64 Pro Cooler. A pretty cheap cooler, but does an adequate job :)

I've also done a bit of reading on the Asus probe 2.  I know it doesn't measure the CPU core temperature (available from on-die temperature sensor as you pointed out), but doesn't it give a fairly good estimate of the CPU "package" temperature.

For me, this is what i'm interested in because AMD only provides the maximum CPU "package" temperature. which is 62 degrees.

Hope I'm not totally off base here.

Thanks,
