Argonev Weapons Range

Hello All,

As I was playing today I upgraded the weapons on the TEC starbase and noticed no difference in the range when pressing "ALT". I thought maybe the missile range (Extreme range) isn't shown and so I watched as enemies passed just oustide the range ring of the starbase but saw no damage dealt. Can anyone explain what is going on? Did the range actually change and I didn't pick up on it? Is this a bug?

Merci!

Haven't built too many Argons, but in case of the Orkulus the "great increase in range" is in fact an increase of about 10%.

Is there any chance you simply didn't notice the effect, because you expected something lmawesome?

Yeah it could very well be. What I did was press alt while it leveled up and saw no change. If you have say a ship going into the range of the Akkan's range increase skill then you see the range ring jump right away. It's very noticeable so I figured the same effect would happen when the station upgrades. I saw no change though.

I also looked at the grids and ( by pressing alt and seeing where the ring touches the grid) waited until the upgrade was done and it didn't change from what I could tell.

I'll check some more in the morning but hopefully some other people can confirm.

I looked at the reference file and it gave me the following info:

beam weapons have a range of 6.500

lasers (standard weapons) have a range of 8.000

missiles (the long range and last tec weapons upgrade) have a range of 10.500

(by comparison: tec light frig has a range of 3.500, heavy cruiser of 2.750 and lrm of 9.800. all base values)

my guess is that just the range of the standard weapons are displayed. the other weapons work alright and have different ranges, but you just don't see it on screen, because I guess the system simply does not support differing weapon ranges for a single unit.

Shadowhal is correct.. it only displays the range of one weapon, in the case of starbases it's the first one they start with.

That's not a huge problem, but it would be a nice one to touch up in a later update..

Sure, if we could see starbases' multiple weapons range, why not also change the ships that have mutliple weapons, have multiple range also? A darker ring for the first weapons, medium for second...but there would be limit the number of weapons possible.

That's odd though, because the ship the flew by the starbase, just outside the ring received no damage. it was solitary too so the starbase wouldn't have been locked up with other ships.

I think I saw that too in the game I just finished. thought it was strange that my ogrovs would move to the end of the enemy starbase's range circle (yes, it had max firepower upgrades).

I believe I brought up the range issue in beta shortly, but maybe there was no simple solution for it. still, would be interesting to know if the post-upgrade circle displays the new max. range. it has to somehow .... the ogrovs do have a long range after all ...

I agree on the idea of multple range circles.

And, well, if they ever did upgrade the 'range circle code', while they were there... when selecting an ability with an AoE, I'd like to get a minicircle - so you get something vaugely akin to the gravity wells of planets + the build circle of a structure, but being the weapon/ability range + AoE involved. It'd make targeting, and the UI in general, vastly easier to use.

yeah hold ur mouse over a skill and it shows the range circle.

No, no. I mean being able to see the area of effect circle - so when you select, say, a Radiation Bomb, you get a range circle showing the overall range, and a little circle around your mouse showing where the AoE will hit.

I thought you'd mean that. when in alt-mode, it could display the general range and the aoe of the ability's current target, in case it is active. not a bad idea.

could apply to other things as well, like kortul VN, lrms aoe effect upgrade, etc.

Bingo! I only suggested Radiation Bomb because it was the first thing to pop into my head (Been playing a lot of TEC recently ;) ); it'd be useful in many, many situations.

I would like to see Range circles for targeted AoE's as well such as Subverters and Transcencia's Meteor Storm.

And multiple range circles for different Starbase weapons would be nice.

Well, what I meant for ring color not for the abilities but for the inbuilt weapons

say

plasma: blue

missle: red

beam: pink

etc.

I'm happy with extra circles at all.

Color coding would be cute, but not strictly needed - you can usually infer it from the listed weaponry anyway.
