Little help with MP tactics...

So, I played a couple games tonight (about 5) and I just can not win at this game.  I'm not entirely sure if I'm adopting the wrong methods to playing, if my teammates aren't pulling their weight, if there's some hidden technique to doing well, or if I'm just flat out terrible at this game.  I typically play Pantheon games, using Oak...  I seem to be able to level quickly given the skill trees I put my skill points into (mostly shields, AOE's that heal my guys, and minion summoning) however it never really helps me.  It's not even that I'm necessarily dying a lot, it's that I just can't seem to wrap my brain around how to best play a game that is as much of an RTS as it is an action/RPG.  It seems like I get completely annihilated when I go toe-to-toe with any Dark Forces Demigods, shit even the vamp kills me half the time we're locked in a duel.

The moral of the story is, can anyone point me in the right direction as to some useful tactics to employ because I'm at a loss as to what to do here.  heh.  Thanks guys!

/end of stupid, noobler post.  ^_^

Unfortunatley, since there is no replay feature implemented into Demigod yet, it is hard to tell what you are doing wrong. What items do you build? Skills? Besides those, we'd really have to see how you play the game. If you have a program that takes replays for you (I've seen a couple replays around, you could ask Dead Ghost, and I'm sure he might be able to help you with that), take a replay of your game, and we'll see what we can do from there.

A couple simple tips:

1) Never, ever fight against 2 demigods unless you have someone with you.

2) Do not chase into tower range, particularly at earlygame. This will get you absolutely friggin wrecked the vast majority of the time.

3) Avoid head-on confrontation earlygame when playing Oak. Level up, capture flags, and stay the hell away from the earlygame characters, such as TB, because they will dominate you and put you at a disadvantage for the rest of the game.

4) Coordinate with your teammates. If your lane is getting destroyed, ask for assistance.

Hope to see a replay soon so I can be of a little more help :)

+1 to this.

And since he didn't specifically plug his own guide, I found transitive's newbie guide to be a great starting point (although you  may already be beyond it).  http://forums.demigodthegame.com/350112

There are a lot of pretty decent guides there.  Read them first, then ask specific questions if you're still having trouble.

I will say this:  I was a bit surprised how item dependent this game is, buying the wrong things, at the wrong times will leave you gimped.  Not to say there is a "right" way to handle item purchases, but you do need to have a strategy in mind and stack the right stats based on your opponents and playstyle.

Firstly...

Play one skirmish game (you don't even need to finish it. Just look at all the abilities and play around with the DG a bit) for every DG in the game. It's a trillion times easier to fight a DG when you know what is at his disposal.

Secondly...focus your build and get gear that complements it. You said you're getting minions and skills that heal/support them. I hope you're not spending all your early cash on the minion idols and then having nothing left over..because if so, that's an easy way to die to any DG that tries to fight you directly.

I don't know how to play oak...but as Sedna, I get monks right off the bat, and for awhile, those + yetis comprise my minion force. My money goes into getting whatever gear I need (Which depends on the game, but you generally will need some). I only get other minion idols after I'm sure that I have enough armor/health/mana/etc to be competitive. Don't blow all your early cash on minions, or your DG itself will be too weak; I only get other minions when I have spare cash.

1) Never, ever fight against 2 demigods unless you have someone with you.

2) Do not chase into tower range, particularly at earlygame. This will get you absolutely friggin wrecked the vast majority of the time.

1 is good advice...most of the time, but not all of the time. Depending on the situation, you may be able to survive such an encounter and do some damage, or you may be able to hold off while teammates come to you.

2 depends. You will many times be able to kill off a DG. Even if you die afterwards, unless there was another enemy DG there, they wont get gold/exp for your death...but you will from theirs. Err on the side of caution, though.

I always recommend that newbies don't chase past towers, as they generally don't have a good feel for when they can get a kill (yeah, he's at 100 hp. He also moves far faster than you and is known to stack healing potions.) After they get a couple games under their belt, players generally become more aware of the game's intricacies, including when to go in for the kill.
