Contents of this Forum

There are only three types of threads.

1) The Experts whining the AI is to easy.

For these people the results of the last poll; said the vast majority of gamers find the AI is fine and more people said the AI is too hard instead of too weak.

2) Metaverse score complaints.

Sick of gamers whining about the score.
Play the game if you like it. Post on the Metaverse if you want but try not to worry too much about your score.

3) The Game Play.

The problem is most people complain about the AI.
Remember the poll ?
I want to see in the game more features, technologies, ships, and events. I do not think Stardock should waste anymore time worrying about people going out of their way too find new cheese tactics. What scares me is where bug reports are just somebody reporting the latest cheese tactic.

I have been scanning for these types of threads;
Game news and legitimate bugs but these types of posts are not common.

I believe you forgot the other category: self righteous threads trumpeting how the board is filled with a bunch of know-nothing whiners and/or ingrates.

Game news and legitimate bugs but these types of posts are not common.
End of quote

Game news is by its very nature uncommon. But bug reports, unless you are engaging in the other sub-category of threads with the loaded word 'legitimate' above, are legion.
Unfortunately, we have a strange sort of hippie fascism running rampant on the board which holds that unless your bug list matches my buglist, then you must also be some sort of whiner and ingrate and should be burned at the stake or kicked off the board for spreading blasphemy about the boy who was a frog and his wondrous creation.

If you have an issue with a specific thread, direct your attentions there. Posting stuff like this has less than zero chance of accomplishing anything positive and significant chance of causing more noise (you know, like this post of mine ;) )

Yep there are lots of self righteous threads.

The thread I started is in response to the last poll.
Since I am self righteous I was not suprised at the result.

I can not remember the exact numbers but

About
15 people said the AI was too easy
800 people said the AI was fine
25 people said the AI was too hard

My main concern is Stardock has limited resources and as the last poll made it clear the game is fine; and I rather Stardock spend time developing not worrying why at a painfull level you can exploit the AI.

Sorry you do like my self righteous point of view.

You are right there are alot of self righteous posts.
Sorry if you think everything I say is self righteous.

Do not like what I have to say do not read it.
I do not read all posts so I can not reply to them because in my own self righteous option some of the game experts "which I see you are an expert" are also self righteous.
;)

I do agree with you Technician that there is way too much whining on these boards. GalCiv is an excellent game with a challenging AI for most of the gamers.

However, keep this in mind: the game has no multiplayer. That means that eventually the player gets better and better, but the AI doesn't. So we raise the difficulty level, but once it gets predictable that we can beat the AI on even the highest level all the time, we start to get bored. Of course, the poll shows that right now, for the majority of players, this isn't an issue. But if the AI was never updated, eventually more an more people will become "experts" and would lose interest in the game.

Fortunately though, the developers are great and the AI is being updated by the Stardock team all the time. If they are still willing to invest their limited time in working on improving the game, then great! That's why many (including myself), will post to this forum on why the AI is too easy and what can be done to improve it in hopes that we can continue to have a tough challenge from this game.

Of course, I've noticed that many just don't know how to word their suggestions very well and it comes off as "whining". I'm sure some of my posts seem that way, even though it's not my intent.

Personally, I would like Stardock to use their time and resources to improve the AI, not on adding any additional features. But if I'm in the minority, then fine, I understand. It's only right that they devote their time to improving what the majority of players want. But I'll still be hoping for AI improvments and I'll keep posting my suggestions and just maybe they will devote the resources into improving the AI to make me happy.

So in summary: People should keep posting their "whining", but they should also recognize they are just one voice and realize that the majority are going to get the attention, and that's how it should be. :)
