Just ONE person cant connect to me every game.

I have the same problem and its generally the same players... so i made a post about it with a screen shot and it looks like for some reason certain players try to connect on crazy ports like 42765 or 2548 etc... which we dont have forwarded... So the developers gotta crack this one somehow

I have the EXACT same issue as well.  Usually there is one person out of 8 people that cannot connect to me, but I can connect to them.  I just don't know what to do.  DMZ does not work.

Could we please get a developer to confirm that it's random ports that are not allowing connection? Could someone please give me a solution or at least tell me a solution is underway?

I just spent 40$ so i could play Demigod online. I like it and am frustrated.

I get this too, it's quite infuriating when the same people you cant conenct to keep being in every damn lobby you try to join.

/signed I have this problem to. Occasionally i will connect to everyone (max game size this happens is a 2v2).

Running Windows 7, modem -> router -> DMZ -> Disabled Firewall -> Computer.

This happens to me too.  Game connections worked fine for me until Qwest "upgraded" my Internet to 7Mbps and gave me a new modem/router.

So, I am in the unique position of being sure that the router is the problem.  Even in DMZ, the router is causing a problem where 1 or 2 people can't connect to me.  My router is an Actiontec M1000, and searching these forums, I see there are several people having trouble with this modem/router.  The only guy who got it to work added a D-link router and turned off the router features of the M1000.  The M1000 is a low-end modem/router with a minimum of features (although it does have a fairly decent port-forwarding capability).  If there isn't anything that can be done to fix the game to work with low-end routers then I'm going to have Qwest upgrade my router to their high end model, a Motorola 3347.  I'm guessing that will work just fine (although it will cost me $40 for the upgrade).

I get this aswell.

It takes forever to find a game where there isn't one of these "Attempting to connect" people that I just can't connect to (everyone else in the lobby can connect to these people just fine).

I've tried with my port forwarded ADSL router, and even with just a simple ADSL modem - so I don't think hardware is the problem. Might be the ISP? (I'm on Pipex UK)

Yep. I get this too. Thank god it's not just me! starting to get very self conscious about it! I hope this gets fixed before we all get a reputation for this...

so far a work around that has worked for me untill this gets resolved is host your own game and simply eject the people that can't connect to you i managed to host a couple 3v3 and 4v4 games yesterday !!

But this problem still affects us all in Pantheon and Skirmish games. It practically appears every game.

I'd like word from a developer on this please. Should we get our modems changed? Or is it the ISP?

I believe from what others have told me on the forums and after examining my router logs... this may actually be a NAT problem within our routers so to try and solve it, we can try to change how the NAT on our routers works by changing the NAT policy from Symmetric mode to Full cone mode. This should allow it to be more compatible with our routers... I will try this myself when i get home later, I wonder if my router will even have such an option lol.

"Some NAT not only map the internal IP-address to an external one, but they also map the internal port to a different external port (e.g. 6112 becomes 54822). Your router seems to be of the most nasty kind and maps to an unpredictable port, meaning the NAT faciliator cannot arrange a NAT punchthrough. If in your router options you can change the NAT mode, switch to "endpoint-independent mapping", "full-cone" or "gaming mode".

Just wanted to add to the list here and say I've had the same problem! Also, I know now to stay away from all of you when trying to join a game because chances are we won't be able to connect .  ZehDon seems to have a good grasp at what is going on, you should read his Technical Support Forum on here.

I'm having the same problems described above.  It's always one person that stops the game from going forward.  It's extremely frustrating as I need to try for about 30-60 minutes to get into a game after trying 10-20 times before actually finding enough people that can connect to each other.

With regards to the NAT router soluesion:

????  -  I consider myself pretty nerdy but this is a bit extreme to play a game!!  Does anyone else think this is un-reasonable?  Plus, the it's the people who can't connect (the lay person) who will never ever do such a thing?  I really like Stardock and they have my full support but this sort of solution seems a bit crazy to me.

I believe I have a simillar issue, and have made a post about it here. I've detailed what I've discovered and what I've done to try and solve it. I hope some of it helps.

ZehDon: That's alot of information... but there is no solution for now? Limiting your upload didn't help you, if I understand correctly. Ping gets too high, right?

Yeah.  The m1000 is a cool concept (why don't we see more modular hardware?), but... lacking on a lot of features.  I think it is better to just turn it into a dumb modem, and use your own router.

That is correct, limiting my upload actually increased my ping but stablises the connection time - a weird side effect I don't fully understand. However, it is my understanding that the my recent update - which is live, juding from what I'm reading on the forums - turned on the Proxy Servers. Using these (by forcing them through the slash command) we should be able to create a client/server style situation, which should ease our problem considerably. I'll be testing it this evening.

Count me in. I have the same problem - players run when they see me coming. I basically connect to the host and one or two others with a very high lag and then cannot connect to certain people. Thought the latest patch (proxy sewrvers) might fix it but nope. Connections seem a little better but the lag is still horrible (500 - 2500ms). SD, do you folks have a fix coming or is this game finally dead for me???

Hold on, your Ping is quite high to begin with? My ping is usually low, which is why it's strange that it takes forever and a day to connect to anyone. I believe you might have a seperate issue.
Firstly, what's your connection speed? Are you running any programs in the background - any programs at all - at the time you run Demigod?

Well I finally got into a game!  (On the third try, so everything isn't perfect yet)  The proxy servers seemed to help, though.  There were several proxy connections to me (but not all).  One guy on our side dropped at launch so it was 2 on 3, but it turned into an awesome game.  Lasted over an hour with almost half of it with everybody at level 20.  We had their Citadel down to about 1/2 strength when they captured both of our portals and staged a comeback.

There were no lag issues during the game.  It ran smooth the whole time.

I was also getting the strangeness of not being able to connect to the 'last' person.  I would get blazingly quick connects to 7 people, and #8 would just hang there.
