Am I ready for Multiplayer?

well I only just got this game a few days ago and I know that the heart of the game is multiplayer but I didn't want to start playing as a complete idiot so I've been playing against the ai.  Now I'm not totally inexperienced as I used to play DotA occasionally(not very well mind you, but I was a bit younger then).  So I've done fairly well against the AI and my only problem is beating them on nightmare level, the hard tournament was easy enough but the nightmare level is just ludicrous in the amount of buffs they get.  So can I play online without being yelled at every five seconds or should i play singleplayer some more?

Also strategywise I normaly play Unclean Beast, since his abilities match up with my favorites in games, namely good speed, good dps, good dot, and overall great hit and run potential with the ability to also focus on heath and mana regen to make myself almost invincible if the situation calls for it.  So I normally go mainly for spit and inner beast with one level in post mortem, one level in diseased claws, and whenever I have points available I dump them in foul grasp so I can stop demigods trying to teleport away.

The only way you'll get good at mp is to mp. SP is pretty much a joke. Hard to Nightmare is a matter of luck and early farming of the ai to keep up with their insane items. I see SP as a basic skills trainer. You can learn timing, working around the click bug, judging a fight to see just how close you can cut it, and stuff like that. Teamwork is pretty much nil and what is required to win is almost completely different.

Come play mp.

Your still going to be green, but you'll be Ok. The way that the AI plays is night and day compared to how people play. People hardly use Teleport scrolls to escape from fights the way that the AI does, for example. And abilities that work in single player don't work the same way against people - UB's best ability to actually Ooze, as it lowers their auto-attack rate thus mitigating their damage, for example.
Once you understand the basics of the game, you're fine to start playing online. Just remember, you're still new and learning so there will be a lot of people who won't be nice to you because you're a 'OMG n00b!11!!' as they would put it. Just stick with it, and you'll get there.

Best of luck!

DotA has a much steeper learning curve and a much angrier community.

So the answer is yes, play online. You paid for the game, who cares what anyone else thinks of you?

when you can comfortably win a Hard Mode Single Player Tournament every time you play then you'll do pretty well at multiplayer.

the two things aren't comparable really so you'll still have a learning curve figuring out how other humans play, but if you can beat Tournament on Hard you'll know enough about the capabilities of your Demigod and your limitations. and you'll have good experience with all the maps.

not on its own its not  it does great dmg  but it isn't the best on its own

iti is best to combo it with foul grasp  for max dmg  plus  with this combo  u can pretty much be sure he will run away  but your faster so that wouldn't work  another spit with the melee dmg and he is dead

the ai  is like  lvl 1 in gaming terms  the  they majooirty who play are lvl 5   im 7  and ive face people even higher

1 being worstg 10 being best

yes you are ready. here are afew tips:

1.Talk to you allies, best thing to do is say "hey this is my first/second/third game of multiplayer, can you help me learn how play?" when the game starts. this is probably the most essential part of the game(teamwork!)

2.Try to learn all the demigod spells and abilities and items, there are several "secret" things in the game you have to find out, for example there are several ways to counter UB spit

3. Think. make sure you dont get in(or stay) in a fight that you cant win, for example 2v1 situations, or at low levels chasing someone into their towers when they are low on health

4.experience is the best learning tool, the more you play MP games, the better you will be at all of the above.

5.THE MOST IMPORTANT IS TO HAVE FUN :D

this is going to happen no matter how good you are, just try ignore them.

You'll be a fine addition as long as you remember one basic rule: don't die. Playing too carefully means that you will still be an asset far better than an AI player and you will learn. Dying once or twice isn't that earth-shattering, but not dying altogether is probably the easiest way for a newbie to shine.

Also, listen to StAcK3D_ActR, he gives very solid advice in the above post.

Unfortunately SP doesn't teach you much apart from the bare basics of Demigod, the AI in this game is pretty much the opposite of how humans play, so as others have said, MP is the only way to get better at MP.

The best way I've seen Demigod described by a reviewer (CO-OP for those who care), was that picking up Demigod after playing Dota is like riding a bike, I was in the same boat as you in the beginning, even as a veteran Dota player, I was terrified I'd get raped online. After 1 or 2 SP games I took the risk and jumped into my first "Noobs Only" Custom Game (great way to start btw) and dominated it, in less than a week I've now moved up to almost exclusively "Good/Best Players" games. Obviously it depends on the person, but take it from me, don't avoid it, you'll have a hell of a lot of fun.

Venom Spit is extremely powerful in every aspect of a game, but especially early, if your opponent doesn't have healing items, you can pretty much lock down your lane and get ahead in exp/gold. Personally I play a heavy speed/reduce speed UB, but I'd say there's at least 3-5 very viable builds that work in MP, so feel free to play around with it. I'd give you some more specific advice, but I think you'll find like I did that it's sort of a trial by fire situation in games, there are too many variables to follow a static build or order.

There sure is a lot of text in this thread.

You bought the game.  That entitles you to multiplayer.  Just play.

i agree stacked gives good advice try not to die but as long as you keep your gold income up either by killing alot off creeps or killing people then the amount  off dieing isn't really much different
