Starbases versus Superweapons

I got into a situation today that made me wonder, does the starbases upgrades that prevent loss of a planet through bombardment work against Novaliths? I had a SB at my hw and my hw was destroyed by a couple of novalith shots, after recolonizing i decided to test it out and upgraded enforced loyalty, unfortunatley my opponent didn't fire on the planet again, but I would assume that it would work, can anyone confirm this?

Only the TEC starbase upgrade, "Auxiliary Government" prevents the loss of the colony however doesn't prevent the loss of population from a Novalist blast.  Not sure if Advent cultural superweapon will bypass this since it fires a culture sapping bomb.

The Advent starbase upgrades only increases the loyalty of your colony while pushing back enemy culture but doesn't prevent the loss of the planet from Novalith blasts.

The Vasari superweapon, Kosura Cannon, does effect all starbases with the jamming and damage effect.

err, wrong.all 3 races have that bombardement upgrade for a star base and it works the same - planet is still under your control after planet health reached 0( novalith or simple bombing, whatever).planet still can be lost to hostile culture.

so just to clarify:

You can still lose your planet to hostile culture, even if you have aux. government on  your sb in that gravity well?  Essentially, the aux. govt. only protects the planet from being taken by force, not culture

However, you still have a sb in an enemy gravity well then...?

So the Deliverance Engine is the only Superweapon that is unaffected by Starbases, interesting. I mean, if novaliths can't destroy the planet, and it would take a ridiculous amount of Kostura warheads to destroy a fully upgraded starbase, than the Deliverance Signal gets a little boost in effectiveness eh? That's not to say it makes the other two completely useless Since Novaliths can still take your population to 0 (thus reducing tax income) and Kosturas can still disable stuff (and potentially destroy structures and units) for a short period of time and allow phase stabilization, but starbases will take the edge off. Nice.

I was wrong. THought Enforced loyalty was a culture stopping upgrade.

Using the deliverance to 'kill' a planet requires 2 deliverance engines and a number of bombardments, its best not to condsider it outside its main role of fleet buff gun because culture killing is not something that happens quickly (or often) enough to effect with a 1 click ability.

Sorry I'm on a 1 man mission to change public perception of the deliverance engine.

Bit off topic.

I once built a group of scouts, and sent them to an enemy planet. Once my scouts arrived, I fired a total of 68 Kostura cannons on that planet.

This was against an advent AI set on unfair btw, and he had mustered an large army there.

Back to the planet. Everything died, except the starbase. I think it had about 40% shields left and 100% hull.

You can get the same effect with about 7 shots I think.  Starbases are pretty much impossible to kill with a Kostura, but you can get rid of all the crap that is preventing you from killing the starbase.  =)

I think it is a pretty handy to "culture kill" worlds with the Deliverance engine if someone is dug in at their last couple worlds.  No reason not to use the full capability of the weapon if the opportunity presents itself against a world with weak culture.

I was kind of disappointed when I discovered Novaliths could no longer do this, considering there are a number of people who like to waste time by holding out at their HW as long as possible when the game is pretty much over.

Oh, it was an total overkill deluxe. but it was some funny 30 seconds with constant impacts.

And regarding the advents. I feel that's the only race that presents an danger, even if they are just turtling. Fear the culture!

Off topic question:
How many Kostura cannons does it really take to kill an SB?
