Minimap/movement question

Hi,

This is probably due to the fact that I'm used to playing DotA, but I constantly find myself clicking on the minimap as an easy way to tell my DG to go to a particular area of the map.  I'll click a couple of times, realize that it doesn't cause anything to happen, then scroll the map via the mouse to view the area of interest and click there to tell my DG to go there.  This process is really slow, and just scrolling the map to the spot where I want to go can take a couple of seconds - which seems like a lifetime during a battle.  Is there an easier way to tell my DG to quickly go from one spot on the map to another?  What's the fastest way (besides a scroll) to tell my DG to run back to the crystal and heal?

Not sure if you are 'scrolling' the map by moving the cursor to the edges of the screen, or if you are using WASD to move the map around. WASD is by far the better option.

Also, you can speed up the scrolling in the Options menu.

Finally, probably the best thing is to click in the direction of the crystal to get your DG moving that way, then scroll over to the crystal and click on it.

A key element in the Supreme Commander engine (that Demigod uses) is that of 'strategic zoom'. Ever so helpful they have decided that you should use varying levels of zoom instead of the minimap. Ie. Zoom out to where you can see where you want to click instead. You see, they couldn't allow both. That would just be silly.

I suppose but I agree with the poster the minimap gives you known, constant locations, zooming out is great to see if you have help coming, but I'd like the INSTANT-ness of the right click map function.  That being said I am dealing with it like everyone else and clicking run away then actually finding the place I really intend to go.

Yup, I guess the minimap is more of a HUD thing (where it's for display purposes only) and not something that you can interact with.  It would be cool, though, if I could move by clicking on the map.  In the meantime I'll do the 'click close then further away' thing.

I find easiest way to move the screen is with zoom out, and zoom in on the spot you want to watch.

Yeah, once you get the hang of it it's (almost) instant for anything except minor adjustments.

The strategic zoom would understandably take some time to adjust to, for non-SupCom players. I've played both SupCom and Dota and I'm ok with quickly zooming out and clicking on the place I need to go. However, I do admit that zooming out and clicking is indeed slightly slower than quickly clicking on the minimap, especially when you've zoomed in for spell targetting just before.

Just click someone inside your field of view that would have you DG walking to that location, then zoom out and give another move where you wanna go.
