Mouse flashes and Demigod fails to start

I have gone into msconfig and disabled ALL startup items.  Still fails to start.  I unplugged my Logitech Webcam (which was not in startup to begin with) and my Logitech g( mouse.  Still nothing.  All I get is an hourglass for a second and the game fails to start.

Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3            English

Whats up with this?  Is it the Quad Core?  Whats up with a game that is so selective on the machines it will play on.  I have a smpkin PC!!  L4D plays without a glitch on high settings and on this all I get is an hourglass?

unplugging the webcam is not enough; it's the drivers (and i fail to see how closing the tray application fixes this; it didn't in SupCom) that need to be uninstalled.

on that note; have you disabled Comodo Defense+ too?

I did find eventually (on my own) that a complete uninstall of the webcam drivers was necessary.  This is a fix that Stardock needs to find.  I would like to think I don't have to spend another $60 on a webcam to use it or reinstall and uninstall the software on the cam every time I wish to use it (which is more often than playing the game).

unfortunately it's not GPG's fault for this bug; it's actually Logitech's. what those drivers do is inject extra code into every running program (in a similar manner to how malware does it. no joke). it's this code that stuffs SupCom and Demigod.
