Fortress is broken

There is no momentum.  You tend to have 1 flag or 2 to shift the war score.  Like on exile, if you want a warscore advantage, you have to hold the +15% hp flag.  Even if you do this, you hardly get an advantage.  It's such a small advantage that getting catas early is just feeding them, while in conquest or domination if you get catas early, you can get them so early( like 9 minutes) that they are hard to fight.

The lack of bonuses, the lack of ways to improve your war score, REALLY messes it up.

You should have bonuses for each Fortress you have, and you should gain a large amount of warscore, like 2k-3k, for destroyed a fortress before your enemy. (IE if your center fortress is destroyed on cataract, the enemy gets +3k warscore.  But if you destroy theirs after yours was already destroyed, you get nothing.. or like just 1k)

Right now, fortress is basically unplayable.  I found it fun in beta, but now that I know the in's and outs and different strategies on all the maps and how to win, it's so clear that fortress is very flawed.  I don't even want to play the ESL tournament today because of the practicing i've been doing on fortress has lead to just grinding teeth instead of having fun.

That's exactly what I like about Fortress. It has much more ebb and flow than the other game types (well, apart from Conquest, maybe), and it comes down to skill over time rather than an early game edge.

Ehh?  IT has less ebb and flow.  It's just a stale mate when teams are even.

There is no early, middle, late game.  You're all stuck being the same.

Sure it comes down to skill in fair fights.. which means 1hour+ matches that are stalemated the entire time.

Last night I played a fortress game.  I didn't realize it was fortress until I noticed the lack of flags.  By then, the other team had a continuous capture lock on the only contestable flag.  It was ugly.  Their warscore went up a hell of a lot faster than ours too.

I played a fortress game today, two rooks against me and an ally both torch bearers.  It was 50mins but it was neck and neck the entire game.  Score went as follows;

us/them

4/4
3/4
3/3
2/3
1/3
...20mins of fighting...
1/2
...10mins of fighting
1/1
1/0

So they got first blood and lead us in score for more than half the game, but we invested in speed and citadel and were able to turn the tables.  The most epic game I've had yet.  There may be a bit of stalemate but that's when you have to find strategies to work the map.

Innociv I agree with you. For that map that we played on anyway.  IT was a good game yes .. especially at the start (your 2 sednas vs us 2 erebus)

Perhaps if each Fortress that you destroyed gave "X" amount to warscore? etc. *shrugs* I dunno. Or* In fortress matches the option to trade gold for warscore perhaps? Experience maybe? Could bring more depth into the mode.

Anyway... skill wise,  A great game.

Personally I think fortresses need to be tougher - and also that Citadel Upgrades should change for this type of game, there should be fortress upgrades or something.

Would make it a much cooler game mode.

It was a good game.. but I felt like grinding my teeth all the time.  Especially with how good erebus are early game.  It took us a while before we could push.

But yes, gaining warscore for each fortress killed would help it like I said.  And if you gain more for killing theirs first, there is more incentive to be offensive early instead of try to build up items on your demigod.

And if each fortress you had had a bonus like flags, but you START with the bonuses and lose them when the fortress is destroyed.  So you'll have like "Okay we need to kill their +25% health fortress first so we can kill them easier.  It's too hard to right now"

I liked Fortress in the begining.. like in beta.. but like I said, now that I really know how to play, it's annoying as hell. :/

Fortress comes down to Oak kamakaze-attacking the fortresses with his last stand ability.

you do know that when teams are even, it usually is a stalemate.....

I disagree,  fortress is very intense,  especially on one-flag maps,  really centers the fighting early game so there is no running around and ninjaing.   It definitiely has its place.

Not really on conquest.. unless evenly bad.

1hr games are good! Not all the time, sure, but these days you hardly have time to get up to the high levels.

Why not have a "no flags" option then if you want something even?   The game doesn't play nearly as good without the controlling "territory" for bonuses. :/

Warscore is the main resource.  Gold is pretty meaningless without it.  And the bonuses add alot of depth.
