Changing out the hotbar

I've searched the manual, the forums, the net, everywhere I can think of, but I cannot figure out how to change the hotbars on a Demigod!!!!  I play Torchbearer, and he came with the ice spells slotted in the hotbars, so when I select Fireball, I cannot figure out how to cast it.

Call me dummy, whatever you want...but please tell me how to change the damned hotbars.

Press 4 to change into fire mode. Then the fire spells will become available.

Yeah you see when you hover over the skills, a tooltip pops up saying what each one does. Hover over 4. and see what it says.

The mode changes for Torch Bearer and Queen of Thorns aren't real obvious.

Doh!  I feel like a fool. The sad truth is I am an English teacher by trade, so I should be a good reader right?  Of course, when I am off duty and playing, the LAST thing I wanna do is read!!!!
