Nat Facilitators

Ok so first of all, i have yet to be able to succesfully play a multiplayer demgiod game. However, just before this update after opening my ports and following all the other connection advice i made it into a custom games lobby, but no one else joined after so host scrapped it, so i feel that at that point i had probably resolved at least the majority of my connection issues.

However, ever since the update i have had a new problem: every time i try to connect to any multiplayer game, be it custom or skirmish, i get a message that i cannot connect to a NAT facilitator at this time, and to try again later. Is this a problem from my end or something to do with the server load? If it is my end, is there anything i can do to fix this?

Same here!  Also trying to get in either skirmish or Patheon I can get a list of players trying to connect AND there is ALWAYS someone who is not connected and just sits there like that when everyone else is f*cking connected!  ANNOYNIG!!!!!!!!!

I get this error every time.. I connected my pc directly to the modem bypassing the router and I was able to connect fine.  Unfortunately, I believe the problem is on our end.

I too am getting this error.

As Tidus noted, this is typically due to an overly strict firewall/router (it may also be due to the host booting you, but that would not be immediate). You may try putting your machine in your router's DMZ, or connecting directly to the modem (good idea to get a software firewall first though for that).

If you get the same message with trying to host a game, it's something on your end.  Otherwise, it could be related to the high volume of users.

If you can't host a game either, make sure that Demigod is allowed by any firewall programs you have, and exclude Demigod's folder from your anti-virus scanner as anti-virus scanners scanning the directory while the game is trying to run can cause problems.  (If you use any mods, just make sure that you scan mods before adding them to Demigod.)  Demigod connects to the NAT facilitator on port 6000.  For further help, please e-mail the following information to me at carielf@stardock.com :

1) The brand and model of your modem and what kind of connection you have (cable, dsl, etc)

2) The brand and model of your router if you have one

3) Any firewall or security programs you have installed and running on your machine.

What ports do I need to forward to play Demigod? I used the ReactorOptions and set 20 ports there that I have already forwarded. Do I need to forward anything else?

I used only the 20 ports in ReactorOptions and things seemed to work for me (6100-6120), andeven though new Hosted games show port 6037 or so, my friends could connect.

Updating the firmware of my dir-655 router to 1.22 (beta) fixed this for me.  The 1.21 simply will not work even with all the settings correct, while 1.11 and 1.22 beta work fine.  If you are sure you've got your ports forwarded properly, you may wanna check out for firmware updates for your router on the official support site for it.

Another thing worth mentioning is all the idiots out there who don't have anything forward and sit in game connection not connecting WHICH ruins the game and then you have you remake a new game and hope for no morons wanting to play online that don't have their sh*t configed!

I get this message after sitting waiting for a game for a while if its not going to connect. I have all ports open, IP in the DMZ, no firewall blocking it - it should be working.

IMHO - they aren't morons.  They just want to buy a game and have it work.  It is tricky when you build a game on top of a p2p protocol like bittorrent.  Some routers don't support UPnP, some don't support it well and some won't work quite right if you mistakenly try to configure port forwarding ranges and leave UPnP turned on, too.

I do this for a living, and have for about 20 years now, so I "get it", but I can certainly see how the average 13 year old who walks into Gamestop or EB and plunks down their cash might not have the skills, or desire or patience, to work through a solution with so many moving, and to many, very complicated steps.

Frankly, and I appreciate how hard Stardock/GPG is working on this, informative, constuctive error reports to the end-user are critical.  And we simply don't have them now.

Its almost trial and error for many of these frustrated customers, which isn't really fair.

I don't want this to sound like b*tching, but I do hope that someone from Stardock reads this and sees there is an immediate "easy" win by inserting some traps in the code that can provide appropriate error reports.

Frankly, a stand-alone test appliation that will "poke" through firewalls/routers and just check to see what is what and then report that status to the customer would be a tremendous help.  Is UPnP turned on?  Seems so... No?  Can you do port forwarding?  He are the ports that Demigod will be expecting to use, please see http://portforwarding.com, then return to this test utility when you have configured your router.... etc. etc.

Throwing up a sticky about the dir-655 firmware issue would be a good move too imo.  It took me a day to figure it out, and then a few hours to figure out that my A4 revision was not backwards compatible but that I could use the newest beta firmware which fixed the issue.  It's a popular enough router that it deserves some sticky imo.

I am having a NAT Facilitator Disconnect's me type of issue. I could play fine and had been playing fine all weekend prior to that 2nd-3rd day patch. I did get my game from gamestop but I didn't have any idea that i was doing a bad thing at the time considering they have the street date set as the 10th.

I just find it odd how I could play fine before. Patheon, Skrimish etc...

Now I can't do shit...

If things can't be fixed sometime soon I'll be seeking a refund. I realise Stardock is trying to fix some issues but it doesn't say

"Demigod Beta A Build 1.3" On the box. I expected a game that worked. Plently of games had issues at launch. World Of Warcraft...Everquest 1 & 2. Age Of Conan... Steam for Counter-Strike was crap for some time.

Even at worse time of all those games listed above you could PLAY them. Patheon is obviously proof that people can play...I just don't understand how the game has such horrid issues.

I can't call up stardock and ask for half my $$$ back till the other half of my game works. As right now I can only play offline. Offline Demigod isn't even worth $20.00USD. Not when you can torrent it for free and play on hamachi...
