In single player on hard, are your ally demigods weaker than the enemy demigods in tourny mode?

They always seem to get their butts kicked and turn into nothing more than walking gold mines for the enemy, allowing them to easily purchase all the good stuff when I am still struggling to keep up. It would be nice if our AI allies were the same strength as the enemy. As it is, normal is too easy and hard is too hard.

I'm pretty sure this is true.  They seem to be stupider too, in addition to being weaker.
