Connecting to Lobby

I've run into a strange problem. I played this game for a couple of hours upon release, and again this morning. I come home from work today, and when I try to click skirmish or host a game in multiplayer, the game just stays on "Connecting to lobby..." forever. I can only exit the game via alt+f4 or ctrl+alt+delete and closing it down.
The game has not frozen at this point, the music still plays and the animation of the 'loading' bar still is moving.
Any ideas? I've tried turning off steam, xfire, and combinations of such to no avail.
Just to make it clear, the game was able to connect before, now it won't.
