How do I know if I'm the problem?

I've been trying to play some games lately and they get hung up ALOT in the creation phase. I have been able to play some games, it just takes a very long time to get one together. I don't know if something on my end is hurting it though and would like to know some things:

Is the port forwarding something everyone needs to do?

If I am seeing that I connect to people in the connection details tab, am I in the clear? I shouldn't have to change anything in that case?

When I see connection failed (has been a rare occurance) is that an issue on my end or the other persons?

I would like to know these things before I try dabbling to much as I am not very network savy and would not like to mess up things if I am already set up fine. Thank You.

2 people trying to connect to each other when both are behind firewalls can be messy. If your ports are forwarded then there's not too much more people can reasonably expect you to do.

Forwarding ports will only affect other people on your router who use those ports for whatever reason. If that for some reason is a problem then demigod comes with an executable that lets you change the range of ports it uses.

If the connection details screen shows you're connecting to everyone (and being connected to), then it's probably other users who can't who are stopping your games.
