Unplayable framerate on mid-range system

I start out at around 20fps, and quickly drop to between 5-10 fps after about 30 seconds of playing. After about 2 minutes,  it drops to 1-2 fps and the sounds start dropping and crackling. This computer can run some pretty beefy games (crysis warhead, empire total war, dawn of war 2) at 1600x1050 at a pretty decent framerate (30fps).

I drop demigod down to shadows off, no AA, medium everything else. Tried resolutions as low as 1200x720, still getting the unplayable 1 fps drop.

No idea why demigod runs terribly.

Specs:

P4 3.4ghz multithread

GeForce 8800 GT 330 meg (latest drivers)

SB Audigy 2 (latest drivers)

WinXP SP3

2 gig RAM

Thats not mid-range anymore. 8800GT is fine, but I think the CPU is your bottleneck there, HT just emulated multicores so won't do the same job as a true multicore processor.

If for some reason its not what I have said, there could be something else in the backgroud taking up resources, other than that I don't know :o

Edit is that ddr or ddr2 ram?

yea a P4 is no longer midrange.  try turning up your virtual ram, it sounds like its running out of memory.

I heard somewhere that turning down audio quality might improve framerate, not sure if it works but could be worth a shot?

Theres nothing wrong with your system, its just bad coding in an otherwise great game. I had the same problem and still do in fact, howver there is a workaround if your willing to play the game without sound. Just right click on the shortcut for the game and add /nosound at the end of the text thats in the Target box. For example it should look like "....Demigod.exe /nosound" without the quotations. Press ok to save the changes and go start the game as normal. I basically compromise the lack of sound by putting suitably epic music on. Hope that helped.
