Alliances too powerful?

Hi,

I think the Ability to forge an alliance is a bit too powerful. It is rather easy to get even a stronger player to ally with you by using trade. When you do this with even a second one, you could just wait till they have wiped out the rest of the galaxy and you win by the alliance victory condition.

Of course It wont work all the time, but pretty often.Even with this condition deactivated, you could slowly steal your partners planets by using influence bases.

I think playing like that can be fun, but it is just a bit too easy to get the alliance, and your partners are to lax. They should be able to cancel the aliance like you can.

This is what bothers me most about alliances.  If you manage to talk someone into an alliance, you can progressively steal their entire empire if you like through use of heavy influence.  While a non-aligned empire will get fed up eventually and try to stop you from influencing them out of existence, your ally will just accept it indefinitely.

Either allied societies should be immune to the effects of your influence, or they should give you a warning after you've taken a planet or two of theirs through influence, then break the alliance if you keep doing it.

The ally system should definatly be enhanced. I hate having to go to war with my friendly races because my ally is a jerk.. <_<

I agree that the influence part of it seems a little strange. However, I don't think that letting your ally take over the map is any fun, so I don't really think it's overpowered. Both are advantages for the player, so if you don't like them, you could just not use them.

I hate alliances in this game so flawed.. I can't get my ally to attack the last remaining enemy and I'm drath.. Maybe its just altarians and terran have something in common or terrans high diplomacy, these 2 races always end up being the last remaining while the evil races always get whooped!
