Bloom

Hi,

is this normal, that the bloom drops down the framerate a lot? My game runs well on highest settings during bigger combats, too, but the bloom crashes the experience. I tried wide range of drivers, but no one could do it better.

Any help, suggestion, experience?

Bloom performance is card specific.  If I remember right, the ATI line is handling that function better at present.  You're vastly increasing the performance requirements in a large combat with all those light effects, there can be thousands of them on screen.

Sad. The bloom can boost the feeling. And hides the illusion-breaking disappearance of ship bodies by most blowups.

I cleared the GS_SkyBoxBloom.fx file, and now I get a much better performance with bloom. It doesn't matter, especially for me, that the skybox is not so glowing.

I failed. I tried it again, and this bloom still destroys the picture.

It's curious for me, that a 9800GTX+ can't handle well the bloom effect in this game.

I edited some fx files trying to do something with this issue, but nothing helped. There are two blur effects (vertical and horizontal) attached to the postprocessing while bloom is enabled. These seem to be guilty.

The 9x series has bloom issues. :(

Is it true? I don't remember any slowdowns similar to what I'm experiencing in SoaSE by some other games using bloom. And before Entrenchment, this game ran nearly flawlessly with bloom, too, if I don't fail.
