Ai Questions about Influence Bases and strong/weak Races

Hi,

I just played the game for one month on small to large maps with random opponents.

I figured that building influence starbases close to others planets maxed out with high influence tech is a grat way to get that planet easily.

Strangely, the Computer AI seems never to use this tactic, even when having the tech and their military is way to low to achieve military victory.  this makes the Game a bit boring wher you are not into fighting.

Second, and related to the first question, I played over 30 games, and neither the Torians nor the Arceans ever won a game. They did not even get close. Is this just chance? The Torians could lose due to theit military weakness, but the Arceans?

Bye

I have seen a lot of people complain about the Torians being weak, but since I have repeatedly been beaten by the Torians, I don't really believe them. As for the Arceans, I guess it's just b/c they are slow at colonizing.

The culture-bombing tactic seems only to be used at higher difficulty levels.

Even at Tough (full AI smarts), they aren't very good at placing influence bases. Or at least not consistently so. I've seen things that definitely look like a deliberate influence attack, and stuff that might pass as influence defense if you're feeling generous. But I've also seen *plenty* of infuence bases in spots that just make no sense.

Re 'strong' and 'weak' civs, I think that a lot depends on your play style and map settings. Outside the scoremonster arguments about what civ to play as, anyway.

I see plenty of Inf bases on Suicidal but the thing is the AI never seem to upgrade them. they just spam the original base and then leave it.

Only AI's with a high default inf bonus seem to be any good at flipping planets. Even with the MCC gifted to them they do not seem to be able to generate enough inf to make any significant impact.

As for the Torians. Are you playing with Super Abilites turned off? I agree the Torians are pathetic without Super Breeder but i have seen them become very powerful often enough that i try to take them out ASAP.

Breeder is a very powerful ability when used right. Especailly with a all econ strat.

I think I use the highest AI, I still have a 10% economic bonus, but this should not influence it.

Yeah, many Influence bases are being build, even in the right places, but not upgraded at all.

Perhaps they are bulding some Influence bases just for tourism income or range? That would explain some strange locations.

While military, economic and mining bases are relatively well upgraded, this really sticks out.

This is strange, since it would be quite easy to programm them into doing it right, they would just have to upgrade regularily.

I just recently switched to the Super Abilities, but I myself always had Trouble with a high population, sending my aproval rates to hell. But lets see what these Torians can do when you let em mate.

The Arceans of course, have this 10% Speed loss. But only in TA I remember, and I played DA most of the time. Perhaps just Chance.

The Areans actually bore me, so i don't play with at all really. But the Torians with their SA on, plus give them maximum ability points in morale and econ and they really do take off.

For even more of a challenge, give them +200% to Financial Resources.....
