Help installing mods in Ultimate Edition

Hi all,

I seem to have run into a bit of a brick wall here.

I tried to install a mod for additional components and also for a ship set, just to see if I could get it to work.

My first problem is in the game itself.  In the options, I turned on use mod and then clicked to change the directory.  I discovered that the default path in the game doesn't match the install paths for the ultimate edition, and also there appear to be no way to edit the path to a different one.  I tired clicking on a number of things in the dialog, but could not get a "browser" to come up, or find a way to edit the patch by hand.

I then discovered that the documentation for the mods themselves are perhaps a bit out of date for Ultimate edition as I found it difficult to find matches for the instructions and the directores I have installed.

So what directories do you put mods in?  In the ultimate edition, there is only on Mods directory by default and it is a level higher that the game-specific directories.

Do you put ship mods, etc down in the main program folders? What, if anything, belongs in the My Documents/Mygame/etc. directory.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you click the "Default" button in the mod folder picker, it'll set it to use one within the TA/DA folders themselves (and create it if need be) rather than the base game's mod folder. If you want to put the mods elsewhere, the mod path can be set manually in the prefs.ini file under the game's folder in My Documents\My Games.

Hi kyro,

THanks for the assist.  I have the new light and jewels now.  But I am still struggling with getting the new ship sets into the game.  I have tries putting the files in MyDocs/MyGames/Twilight (paraphrasing here) Ships, Shiptemplates and ShipStyles and they still don't show up in the designer.

Any ideas?

Are you starting a new game too? Ships are only read in at game creation.
