Cant update Support wont support wants more money no thanks

So I put down Sins about a year ago because the gameplay was pretty flat after the 5th game, the modding community just wasn't established, and I had had enough playing with the map editor making gigantic maps which the AI never bothered to really compete with me on or the race through the tech tree ended way to soon. I am stuck at 1.3. There is a Star Treck mod I'd like to try as well as the Star wars mod. I bought this game for $49.99 at Walmart, yeah ripped off I know. But the demo played surprisingly well, too bad it was all of the game right there.

Anyway, I've been trying to figure out how to get patched up without jumping through all 1000x hoops it looks like Stardock/Ironclad/Publishes/Distrubtor/whoever wants me to wiggle ass through.

Jim,
Your Stardock.net account does not list any games, and your trouble is due to that. Can you provide the serial number for your copy of Sin's?

ME: I dont know where to find the SN.

Jim,

Unless your game is already registered with us (possibly under a different e-mail?) or you have a serial number, there is not much we can do but offer you a discounted price on purchasing a new serial number. I don't suppose you kept your receipt for the game, if you bought from a retail outlet?

You may purchase a new license key from Stardock for $20, which is a discount from the MSRP:

So help me out with my options. They don't have my data evidently, can't keep track of my game, with the serial number, wont tell me where to find that, I looked its not like in a folder called serial number or anything, and they want me to pay another $20 for something that already was a $49.99 rip off. Question I have is, if I get the expansion which is $10? Will it update the original game? Will I be able to play the expansion without also having to pay another $20?

I really am frustrated by the lack of "hey lets not :( the customer" in their attitude here. I mean I got the same type of run around by Stardock last time when I bought GalCiv2 and if their games weren't at least above average I wouldn't have even bothered. So what do you guys think I should do?

The serial number should be inside your case or on the back of your instuction manual.

Uh...

Ok, what the flower.  I'll bite.

Did you do something brilliant, like... open the box?  Seriously, the serial number isn't hidden.  Mine's right inside the box, just above the CD on a sticker.  It's standard to put them either directly in the box, on a card that clearly states, or somewhere obvious on the manual, like the back.  If you haven't opened the box and looked, you've got no business bitching about support not telling you something so obvious.

Now, if your serial number isn't where it's supposed to be, you have a problem.  But this is right up there with calling tech support because your computer wont turn on and blaming them when they don't ask if you plugged it in.

Stardock makes great games, but wow do they make things a pain in the ass. This guy ''Jim'' should just give you your damn serial number. Honestly. Clearly your not lying about the whole thing to obtain a serial. And your a fan of their work. If I was Mr. Jim I would secretly send you a serial. :)

The serial number should be on a sticker inside the box, either right above the disc or on the back of the manual. We can't know what it is unless/until you register it.

I believe that Impulse checks for the updated version of Sins before it will install Entrenchment. I would hold off on buying the expansion until you resolve the issue with your serial number for Sins. Once you have that sorted out, though, Entrenchment is definitely worth the $10.

also Entrenchment works like a mod it installs only the new files that are needed, so it can only work if you have installed the latest sins vanilla version.

And yes Entrenchment is worth its price!
