Facebook Users Beware

Privacy, oh sorry you didn't read!

An article this morning in the St. Petersburg, FL Times states: FACEBOOK USERS are protesting new policies they say allow the social-networking site to control their information forever, even after they cancel their accounts. Facebook's new terms of use, updated Feb.4, largely went unnoticed until consumer rights advocacy blog Consumerist.com pointed out the changes Sunday. Facebook's founder, Mark Zuckerberg, said Monday that "people control their information and who they share it with". --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a misleading statement on the part of Zuckerberg. From information gleaned from other sources, basically if you post pictures of your cute little children on Facebook, they own the rights to publicly display that image without your consent. The same goes for any typed information you or others may have posted on your site. I canceled my membership yesterday. However on doing so I was notified that all I had to do was re-enter my user name and password and my site would be back as it was, meaning nothing was actually eliminated. This smacks of being a bit too Orwellian for my taste.

I know Ken, I just posted an update to my article.  Thanks.

I believe the prior TOS were not much better. They still have rights to use everything you post on the site.

I never used Facebook, and perhaps never will.

PS. I wont mind if my pictures are publicized. Who knows I might get the lead role in next superman series!
