Earth 2150 Trilogy movies: Playing cutscenes

An odd problem for me.

You see, the game has various movies it plays in game using windows media player. The original game, Earth 2150's movies, play fine (in game or out). The other two (moon project, lost souls) do not play. Outside the game, windows media player (Vista, Player Version 10) views these two games as sound files, not movie files. In game, the screen where the movies would be is black.

Converting the files to another format (.wd1 to .mp4) makes the videos viewable outside the game, but the game itself still has its same issues. Any ideas?

Edit:

The original games video files are larger than its counterparts that use the exact same movie.
