I have important question about skinstudio 6 saving feature...

In about 2 hours I am going to use a trial of vista home premium I got in the mail last winter, my problem is that 35 of my skins are based on XP OS, and I need some sort of a way to make them compatible with vista and window blinds 6.

The thing is with skinstudio 6 it can't convert the skin to be atleast enabled to work with vista and let me fix any bugs or problems I might find like Skinstudio 4.6 and 5.0 did before saving them and not risk screwing up the windows environment a little bit.

Really I don't have time to remake all of my skins again to work with vista and I sometimes I don't like how SkinStudio 6 is set up. you pro master skinners might like it alotk but I sure don't....

Is their any possible way to get the skin ready for vista without having to do it from scratch or do I need to forget about skinning for vista completely ?

Here is 2 samples of what I want you guys to see when I get vista working and finally purchased this weekend:

Mini computer personal life style

Celeron Power 2 Hyper edition

Existing XP skins should work on Vista.  No conversion needed.

You can add in the additional Vista sections using SKS 6 if you want to to improve the final result, but that is not required.

What is it you do not like about SkinStudio 6?

I like doing my skins in my own style that Skin Studio 5.0 did and if you at least screw up something wether it would be graphic wise or coding wise skin studio 5.0 would not let you make the skin work properly without you fixing the problems you made and it would at least tell you whats wrong and fix it a little and the rest is up to you to fix it up and make it work great.

Skin Studio 6.0 and beyond that it's software layout of how it wants you to make a skin it's way is not gonna cut it for me, especially if it doesn't let you do things your way.

I really would have bought a version of SS 6.0 but it doesn't have the old way of letting you make skins like 5.0 did if you had some sort of hand in creating this SS 6.0 it's a nice program but really changes how the way some skinners like me create skins which I truly hate.....

I didn't know that window bar and start menu belonged to you however the rest of the parts belong to me, also to Boxxi and the others I haven't released any of the skins I made here or anywhere else, pretty much I keep them to myself and also I'm not looking to cause problems or a fight here...

on a side note If it were me I would leave Vista at the trial. your post almost sounds like your going to purchase A vista license when the trial is over (why else would one be so concerned about making skins compatible when the trial will need activation SOON).

With 7 around the corner why would you want purchase a key, when the next is soon to be. Beta is out (and looking good), MS should be releasing RC1 soon (it was leaked on torrents this week according to Wikipedia in build 7022 and screen shots of build 7032 were posted here)  we may very well have 7 on the market in about a year. though you can't yet skin it (no stardock support just yet) you can use beta until Aug 2009 and by then RC1 will likely be out.

Answer me this then, what are the true requirements for windows 7 ? Have you taken into consideration that many programs are not ready for windows 7, that is due to the fact that Microlost hasn't made it clear enough to software and hardware makers to start fully supporting vista to make at least windows 7 have a backward compatiblity program to use most of vista's x86 and x64 programs.

Also some developers like xp alot and hating vista for alot of numorous reasons which makes them not create decent programs these days.

I like vista alot and would at least  make a final goodbye to xp once microlost shuts off the phone lines to activate xp again.

haven't looked up system req yet, don't know, don't care, my system is plenty powerful, if you can run Vista you can run 7.

hmmm... take a look at this thread, plenty of apps etc already tested by site members. granted this list is short compared to all the software that is available, but it's a good start and includes a lot of the most popular. pretty much anything that runs on Vista is going to run on 7, maybe a little updating/patching for some.

Only because they are either lazy and stuck in an XP world which will eventually lead them to bankruptcy. Yes XP is a great platform but won't be here for ever. Or these developers that hate vista are only there due to vista's problems and there are waiting for a solution in the form of Vista SP's (longshot) or a new OS to solve the problems before they invest a lot of resourses into new apps. They don't have much choice, as I said XP will be extinct sonner or later and if they wish to remain in business they will have to move into the win 7 or later platforms. they will also be forced to support 64bit soon, the way it's going I'm betting in 5 years (or atleast within the next 2 MS OS releases) 32 bit OS will no longer be marketed. take a look around online at the major PC/laptop manufactures, 50%+ of their inventory is 64bit OS. they are phasing out 32 bit.

to make at least windows 7 have a backward compatiblity program to use most of vista's x86 and x64 programs.

backward compatiblity is not a real issue. Vista IS the platform for 7. 7 is not a complete rebuild like it was moving from XP to Vista. see for youself, find the 7 beta build 7000, install it and check your system properties, it will say OS installed Windows Vista build 7000 same as mine.

overall the transition to 7 will be smoother than the transition to Vista was being it is the same base platform, It will not be the driver headache that Vista was. drivers etc. for Vista needed a complete rewrite / extensive updating, for 7 they will only need minor updating to be compatible with new Win 7 features and possibly remove code for Vista features that are being removed.
