Fences

I downloaded and installed this application and it works just fine.

I appreciate how it's setup and the usefulness it provides.

Nice approach - thanks.

Yep - I'm happy with it too. It's running nicely and behaves well on XP Pro SP3 Windowblinds and ObjectBar Pro enhanced desktop.

I have a suggestion for improving fences even more...

How about the ability to "roll up" each paddock? That way the desktop would be ultra clean with just the titles until you "mouse over" the title and the paddock scrolls down to reveal your icon content!! THAT would be cool!

Thanks for your "outside the box" apps, they're the way Microsoft would do it if they'd thought a bit harder!

I really like that "roll up" idea! Would make the app even more perfect

I can't seem to find a way to sort the icons in a fence. Is it possible?

Not at this time.  You can drag and drop them though.

I love this as well, it makes everything so clean. However when I'm using it on my XP machine with Deskscapes, it gets all funky and exposes all the icons at once with no frames.

Once the CP is over I'll be buying this immediately. No more will I have to suffer my icons rearanging themselves. Fantastic idea, well done StarDock

What you can do for now is shuffle them around to display the order you would like to see. This doesn't take too much time. As you move an icon and point to where you would like it, the other icons move out of the way... it's not bad, and yet, an auto-sort would be better...

Very nice! Roll up would be a great enhancement

if you have any feature requests or major issues with Fences, you can always aim them at fencesbeta at stardock.com

So far, I'm still very happy with this program. However, I have encountered one problem:

It seems that FENCES has a problem with Stardock Virtual Desktops. If Fences is running, I cannot leave the actual desktop where Fences is running and go to another virtual desktop. There seems to be an incompatibility between the 2. [Running XP SP3]

I had to temporarily remove the Fences application because the Virtual desktops is somewhat more important for me - I need those.

I downloaded this today, It works fine for me for the most part except that i can't actually see the fences or the titles.

im running windows 7 and don't have any other programs running that mess with the desktop except for windows slideshow.

any ideas why they don't show up?

I've tried rebooting, turning off slideshow and disabling and re-enabling the fences, but i can't seem to get it to work.

it says its compatible with windows 7 on the main page...

I'm having the same issue white-seraph and I'm running Win 7 RC.

I can't see the fences when Aero is active and if I have one of the slideshow themes active then everything disappears when the background changes.

This was a bug with Windows 7 and Fences.  The latest update in Impulse should fix it.

It seems that FENCES has a problem with Stardock Virtual Desktops.

Yes.  No fix at this time.

I don't think this is a matter of bugs. On Windows 7 (RTM, Enterprise), Fences do work quite perfectly, on dual screen setup and everything - provided I give up running Aero. Aero is a new environment to which Fences must be adapted.

With Aero, the icons get confined into designated areas, however, the fences themselves are not displayed. Also the double-click feature does not hide the icons.

Needless to say, whenever the fix to this comes, it won't be soon enough. ;)

Damjan

I'm using Fences in Windows 7 Ultimate 64x RTM, but this problem existed in Vista 64x too.  I have dual monitors.  Primary is 2560 x 1600 and secondary is 1920 x 1200.  Secondary is on my LEFT (Windows defaults secondary to right so I have to move it in Display Settings).  I get fences set up on secondary monitor (to the left) and take a snapshot.  Snapshot looks correct in fences panel.

Unfortunately, when I reset a snapshot, the icons and fences reset to the Primary and not to the secondary where I had placed them.  Since I often go between using SLI for games and dual monitors for work - this is a royal pain.  I would like to have a snapshot for both SLI and dual monitors.

I have an Nvidia 9800 GTX.
