The Blacklist is a stupid idea anyway, what's to say anyone can't threaten to put someone on it. With all the smurfs out there, how do you know if you're playing with one of the Blacklist "moderators" or their friends or not. So potentially anyone can say "do this or you're going on the blacklist". So why have it? The Sins Community is small, why ostracize people when you can just prove you're better than them by challenging them to a game? If you don't like someone, tell your friends and then don't play with them, instead of telling our entire community not to play with said person for some argument you had privately. It's not like they can't just create a new account anyway. So what's the point.
Today I played a 2v2. My ally was new and was taken out relatively quickly, and then the two began taking my outlying colonies. I managed to take out their capital ships (lvl 5 marza, lvl 4 marza) and drive them off for a bit, but i had taken to much damage to my economy and was going to lose. They pointed that out and asked me to give up. I told them I would after 1 last battle, I still had decent sized fleet of 13 carriers and maybe 30 lrms, a lvl 5 marza and a level 3 akkan. After a good 15-20 minutes of "preparation" they finally attacked with a combined fleet larger than mine (around 20 carriers, 80+ lrms, lvl 3 marza) I had added 30 or so more lrms and 5 or 6 hoshikos. In the midst of the battle my marza reached lvl 6 and decimated their fleets with missile barrage. They only destroyed maybe 20 ships tops. After their lrms were crushed one of them said "ok leave now". The battle wasn't even over yet. When I didn't he started freaking out and said "If you don't leave, you're going on the F***ing blacklist". I thought to myself. "Really? he's really threatening me?". Honestly I could have had a chance after that battle since they lost so horribly, and I was thinking that I had the right to try, but I stayed true to my word and surrendered, not because of the threat, because I was friends with that guy's ally. Was that really necessary? The guy was so afraid that I might come back and win he started threatening me? Even his ally was taken aback saying, "hey man, no need for threats here". It made me realize that ANYONE can do that. Anyone. Which makes it so stupid. Am I in the wrong here? What if I had stayed? What if that guy did have access to a popular Blacklist? Is that fair? No it's retarded. You could make the argument that the guy lost all those ships because he wasn't "prepared" for the battle, but was goaded into it seeking a faster end to the game. He claimed that had he not attacked he would have sat and teched up and gotten more ships, as if were just going to sit there and let him. I mean come on, I gave them 15 minutes to get their fleets together, add whatever ships they could muster and have at it. They even had a choice of where to attack. They lost because they attacked the most heavily defended position with poor strategy. I was expecting to lose most, if not all of my fleet, and I don't know about you guys, but I don't like surrendering when I can still fight and do some damage and have some fun. So what would you do? Keep fighting and risk getting on some Blacklist somewhere? or do what you said you would, surrender, even though you just massacred their fleets?
So then what is a blacklist? A tool to cover up mistakes? An ultimate vengeance on someone who did you wrong once in a game somewhere some time ago? If anyone can throw the blacklist at you, then what's the point of it?
And Kryo, while you may have dealt with the blacklist on the forum, you can't police private webpages that people can link to from the forums, so while it may have been dealt a blow, the concept is still in circulation.
And McCarthy was a loser on the same path as Hitler. He just didn't become as powerful. No offense Astax, but if you were on that list, I'm sure you wouldn't be saying that.
I know that some of you like the idea. And that's your right. But what chance do any of those on the blacklist have at redemption? Almost none.
Sorry to rant, that guy just really pissed me off.
