Windows 7... anyone?

Windows 7... anyone?

I have just tried Deskapes under Windows 7 (64 bits) unfortunately all I got was a dialog stating that Desktop Windows Manager is not running.... tried to find it in Administrative Tools->Services but it seems the process was renamed or otherwise replaced by something else in Windows 7... so, no Dreams... snif... snif.

Is this only me?

Whats the diff between Deskscape free and the one on impulse? Also where would I find it? Might just give it a shot if a beta isn't going to happen soon. I miss my moving walls. Found a hack by Orbit30 but that only works with mpgs not dream files

the v2.5 on impulse wont work maybe it is looking for a reg file from vista or something and if you go to the deskscape home page it has the v1.02 deskscape software for downlaod under vista ultimate "i think because it's a standalone program" that is why v1.02 works

OK... maybe I'm desperate, but I can't wait any longer for Deskscapes to run on Win 7... RTM is just a couple of weeks away. I hope it will be ready then!

Well now that Windows 7 has been RTM for a while now, released through MSDN, Technet and MSDNAA and that exact version is going to be thrown on the DVDs landing in the store shelves in October...is there something more..."specific" about an updated Version of DeskScapes for Windows 7? Can we get our hopes up?

A beta should be showing up this week for ObjectDesktop customers.

Right now I've got DeskScapes Free working on Windows 7.  I presume that despite MS's dropping support for DreamScene (heck there never was DreamScene in XP), Stardock will bring "official" Deskscapse back to 7 so that I no longer have to rely on a half-baked hack?  It's just a matter of waiting, right?   Which I am perfectly content to do as my Dreams sorta work right now.

The only thing I'd like to see is for Stardock to untangle that stupid "multiple GPUs = no DeskScapes" stuff that was going on back in Vista.  I have a 9800GX2 and a 7900GTX in the same system.  This is because the 9800GX2 is a single-card SLI solution (Deskscapes/Dreamscene will run on this).  But when the 7900GTX is added, Deskscapes and Dreamscene are MIA, this despite the fact that I've spanned fully 3D apps across both cards, Windows works on both cards and I can have a DX10 game going on Monitor #1 (9800GX2) and DX9 stuff going on (b/c the 7900GTX is DX9) on Monitors 2 and 3.

There will be a version of DeskScapes for Windows 7, eventually.

Why can't existing Deskscapes subscribers get the Deskscapes Beta 3? Why should I have to buy another package - Object Desktop - to get a beta of the product I already bought?

As I understand it, if you have purchased Deskscapes you should be able to download the beta using Impulse.  Just make sure you tick Show Prereleases from the orb menu.  It will show up as Deskscapes 2.90

will deskscapes 3 be a paid product or free product when released?

This will depend on when you purchased your copy of DeskScapes.  Usually we'll upgrade purchases that have been made recently before the upgrade releases.  If you buy between now and the release, you will more than likely be updated at no cost.

So I just got the paid for version deskscapes and Windows 7 (64 bit) and it won't load. Is there a fix yet?

Requiring people to repurchase software strictly for compatibility reasons is absolutely absurd.  Everyone who purchased this software should be allowed a free upgrade to a version compatible with the most up to date operating system at no cost to the customer.  Please do not defend this scam with the inclusion of new features as every new feature that I saw was laughably dismissible.

aside from Windows 7 compatibility, we are adding several new things to DeskScapes 3, like Hybrid dreams and Dream effects.  This constitutes the upgrade price.  In other cases, such as TweakVista to Tweak7, the featureset was not chnaged as much, so no upgrade price is charged.

I think it would be entirely reasonable to expect that your purchase of a program would remain compatible with whatever OS for which it was purchased.  I certainly would expect updates, etc to maintain function/compatibility with each OS Service Pack release, etc.

But with a new Operating System?

No.

Yes, Vista and Windows 7 look similar, and they are definitely 'related', but under the hood they are different, requiring program rewrites, etc. for functional compatibility..;)
