The Capital Ship abilities post is nice. The ship damage type chart is also very nice. Is there any such guide for the support ship abilities? I tried using the search feature on the forums, but it doesnt seem to work very well.

Although it's somewhat outdated, most of the information in the Viable Strategy, Counters, Replays, and Tips 1.05 thread is still fairly accurate. I found it useful when I was trying to figure these things out for myself.
You should probably learn the abilities by heart. There are not that many 
I recomend Hoshiko's repair ability and weapon jamming drones. Subverters damper field, and iconis guardian's repel and shield abilities also work very well. Those are the best and most effective.
As far as non support abilities go, both Tec and Vasari HC abilities are great for hunting down carriers. LRM aoe missile ability is also swell, not so for the Assailant one, as it means they have to stay in place. Illuminator illusion is meh, geenrally waste of research.
