Upgrading lots of ships and the bank ballance

When upgrading ships I selected the button to do all the ones in the class and on more than one occasion my ballance went below 0 to a negative number but on some occasions, am i sure it went to below -50000 once, the next turn the ballance would then jump to -2000 then start counting as normal.

Is this:-

a ) a bug and so I am geting lots of upgrades for free?

or

b ) the way it works and your civ goes into some emergency econemy mode and resets to -2000 but the money comes from somewhere

c) There's a lower limit to your debt amount on the lower difficulty levels.  I believe it's Normal and under, but I don't remember specifically.  If you were playing for instance Tough, though, you'd still be at -50000BC.

It was an easier game I as playing (I start simple and ramp up tinetune strategies and to see how the game reacts)

But even if you can goto -50000 why did it jump to -2000 the next turn?

I wasn't aware of this feature, but it sounds like something they put in so that beginners can't bury themselves in a completely unsurvivable debt. It's possible to wreck your economy so bad you simply could not recover.
