Sova Carrier? worthless?

Sova Carrier? worthless?

Hi all Sins fans! just have a question here

im new to this game (2 weeks) and i love it. Tec became my farourite race to play just love the "human" theme...

now after i while i started to look in these forums for hints and stuff from some pro player.

And to my chock i discovered that everybody is talking about that marza is the best CH and yadida.

I really love the sova carrier, gives me memories of robotech and macross, and i just love the idea with fighters and so on...

but is really Sova carrier that crappy? is it any good at all? im not a number cruncher and calculate the best setups and stuff, i just use them cause they tickle my imagination in a good way

in one map i had 6 sova carriers and rest only carrier ships, cool as hell!!!

anyway, any feedback on sova carrier and why/why not to use em would be greatly appriciated.

would be really nice to know if im ever gonna get brave enuff to try it online

cheers

Definetly agreed. The only reason that people give the Marza so much credit is Missile Barrage, which was bugged down. Plus its a level six ability, wheras missile batteries, embargo, and heavy SC are ALL very effective, plus the SC can't be attacked except by other SC or flak, but a Marza can be attacked by ANYTHING.

Marza's real strength has always been Raze Planet and Radiation Bomb.  Missile Barrage is nice, but it's both counterable and late in the game.  In any case, you just bumped the thread again...

early on it KILLS the local ships with bombers and strike craft.  *_* *_*

old. thread. :typo:

very old

this was back when the Sova was lame

now the Sova is the second best Carrier IMHO of the game

Second best?  On the rush, sure, but overall I'd say Halcyon comes out on top due to higher late-game utility.

i can't take it seriously. it looks like an oil tanker in space, one of the worst space sailing offenders in the game. i hope that someday someone will release a mod that makes the tec ships look less ridiculous

space sailing?

um, you do realize that theoretically anything can "sail" in space with a set of engines on them

personally I love the way TEC ships look

so :P

maybe on the fleet level, but on the macro level Sova reigns supreme, rapid manufacturing can almost instabuild fleets at amazing rates

of course the joy of that is getting it to level six

Wow, this thread is like a cockroach, It just won't stay dead... WHAT HAVE I DONE!!!

Anyway, i agree on the look of the TEC ships (Except the Dunov...*Shudder*)

As to Sova, I love it for the mere fact that It is a small fleet by itself due to the Missile Platforms.

The Sova and the Akkan are always my first two capital ship picks.  Early in the game, you rarely meet with your enemy (unless the map is small).  Usually, the fights are between your expansion fleets and the rebel defenders around vacant worlds.  The Akkan is nice because of its strength, firepower, and Colonize Ability.  I like to supplement it with Cobalts and Javelis frigates and use it to expand quickly.  The Sova is also a great starter ship, due to its bombers.  The rebel defense fleets often lack Garda flak frigates, and the bombers can pack a punch.  The Sova’s armor and weapon systems might not be on par with the rest of the capital ships, but it still has plenty of punch to handle the ragtag defenders.  I like using the Heavy Bomber Ability in conjunction with the Bomber squadrons and some Cobalt escorts.  Since I always purchase the first two tech levels, I also use the missile platforms.  This makes a nice attack force.  Throw in a colony ship, and your all set.

You can’t go wrong with the Sova.  It’s a great centerpiece for raids, low-priority fleets, and general harassment.  However, you should think twice before sending a level three or lower carrier into a full-fledged battle.  Though they pack a punch and are all-around good ships, a slugfest involving large numbers of frigates, cruisers, and capital ships can quickly wear them down and eliminate them.  I usually use the pirates as a means of sharpening my claws before heading into battle.  I determine which planet they’ll strike, turn it into an impregnable stronghold, and then position a fleet on it with at least two capital ships.  I always make certain that my Sovas get first option, so that they can level-up quickly.  Once my ships hit a level six, I start using them in my main battle fleets.  A level six Sova or higher is a dangerous threat on the battlefield due to its bombers and its abilities; no one should take it lightly!  If you like the Sova, then I suggest pairing it with the Kol Battlship.  They make a nice couple and can really rip through an enemy fleet.  Of course, the Akkan and the Sova also work nice together.   Overall, Sovas won’t disappoint you, so don’t feel hesitant to purchase one.  The determinant for buying it shouldn’t be “Will it work?”, but rather, “What does the chessboard look like?”  If you are early in the game, but playing a small map with numerous confrontations, then take the Akkan as your starter ship.  If you are on a map with some breathing space, then I prefer the Sova.  Ultimately, it will all boil down to your skill as a gamer; not the ship’s qualities.

Concerning Embargo…it’s O.K., but not terrific.  It has to be leveled up considerably to be of any real impact against an enemy.  I would just as soon use the level points to upgrade my Bombers and my missile platforms.

    Good luck!

Yet another person that likes to Necro. The OPs comments are based off of an older patch where the Sova sucked. This post is no longer valid.

This thread has been bumped four times now.  It's approaching two years old, and that needs to stop.

Please, no one reply to this thread.  It's time for it to rest.  If you want to discuss the Sova, make a new thread, this one is long past its expiration date.

Sorry about the Necro.  The old forum I used to participate on preferred members to Necro, rather than to make a bunch of new posts.  I'm still learning the ropes for this one.

I'll be more careful and pay closer attention to post dates...

Stop replying to this horrendously outdated thread.  Most of the information is no longer applicable to the current version of the game

I'm actually upset that this thread is currently near the top of the strategy forums, since we're expecting an inflex of new players from the Steam release, and that's just going to cause confusion.

If a moderator sees this, please lock this thread.  It's been necro'd five times and it needs to go to thread heaven permanently.
