Codename: Static (The birth of my first WB)

It's not much yet.... And may never be, but such is life... :)

Ok, I've started on one of my dozen ideas I have in my head.... I'm hoping posting this little preview here will give me inspiration to continue it.. :P

Calling it Codename: Static, because I have no idea how to continue it at the moment, I'll just sleep on it, and hope to progress tomorrow :)

It looks good so far.  I hope you get a wave of inspiration overnight, so you are eager to work on it again tomorrow.  I'll be looking forward to seeing more in the future.

Thanks for the peptalk guys and gals. :)

In my search for a way to go on, I ended up with a loading screen... It actually works really well as a bootskin too.. :)

You're going great guns buddy, keep up the good work :)

Nah, not hard if done properly ;)

Made a raw mockup on how windows will appear...

It's just a raw illustrator export, so it doesn't represent the finished product, as I've decided to assemble the WB a bit before I do the finishing touches with photoshop. :)

Comments are accepted in any form. Tell me about what you feel is flawed or may cause me unnecessary trouble when building the blind (constructively please, saying "it looks like crap doesn't mean anything unless it's accompanied by a reason)...

I know the titlebar doesn't have an actual title on it, I may add it eventually. ;)

I love that muted blue/purple color on the loading screen. Keep at it!

I and I think most WB builders draw a complete window minus the actual buttons and then cut it apart to get the top, bottom and sides this makes the part transition seamless! It is hard to build the windows in seperate pieces and get them to fit just right!

Start menu the same way

Just a suggestion!

I think John was saying stripes always look good.

As I progress i'll use that more. I like the "cold" side of the colour spectrum. Too much gray makes me depressed. :)

Yeah, I noticed that when I tried to get the sideborders right... I'll probably redo the titlebar as a full window template. It doesn't feel quite right as it is now...

I start by making my start panel first.  The default size for the start panel is 380 px wide by 436 px long.  The rest of my blind comes off the start panel...I consider it the cornerstone of the whole blind.  And, as AVMan says, make the whole start menu and window frames .  Then slice them up in your graphics software to get seamless parts.

Welcome to the worrld of skinning!!!!

I think not... I meant that it's not at all hard to go wrong with stripes, if you do it like a pro. :P

Phew... Remake took more effort than expected... Geesh... Anyway, here's how it came out... Changed the colour of the stripes a bit, and made preparations to spice up some sideborders :P

Hehe, in this case it actually is. I'm just having a VERY hard time getting things to look the way I want to... I'll fiddle with the start button for a week I think. :P

Unfortunately I managed to shortcircuit my system harddrive. I was fiddling around with the drives because of an issue with my raid mirror, so I ended up losing *all* my recent work. :(

Because I really don't feel like redoing all the same sourcefiles for this again, I'm terminating the project.

Sorry to hear that...I thought it had major possibilities. Well, maybe in the future...don't throw it all away, mick...honestly it was a very good start!

I'll start over with something fresh. I have an idea that has kept me awake a few nights that really needs to get out of my system. :D
