GalCiv II: EU Will NOT Start!

I'll keep this short and sweet:

I enter Impulse, pick GalCiv and click "Run" and once the auto-run screen pops up, I click Play Game. I then proceed to sit there FOREVER waiting for it to start. I even went down to watch TV for an hour and when I returned, I was greeted by the stupid black box taking up 3/4s of my screen, but NO game.

Here are my pc's specs, somewhat.

CPU: Intel Quad Core

Memory: 2.00GB of Ram

Graphics Card: 8800GTX

OS: WinXP

Now that is odd.  There's no point in waiting for an hour, it usually loads in a matter of seconds.  Is the game updated to latest build?  Did this happen more than once?

Please open your debug.err file in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem. The location you'll find the debug.err in varies depending on which game you're playing:

Dread Lords: My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2
Dark Avatar: My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar
Twilight of the Arnor: My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor

Older versions may store the debug directly in the location the game is installed at.

Be sure to copy the debug immediately after the error occurs; if you start the game again, the debug will be erased and recreated for the new session.

Well, it seems to be working now... This is really wierd but all I did was lower the resolution, enter the game and now it works fine, no matter the rez.

Anyway, thanks for the quick responses.

That is so weird.  I had the exact same problem.  Installed GalCiv2: DL, updated to 1.53 through Impulse, but the game would just hang after hitting the Play Game button on the start up screen.  I had to Ctrl-Alt-Del the game.  So I tried LujanD's 'technique' ;) and it's working fine for me now.

My res was 1440x900 on 2 monitors.  So I turned off my secondary monitor and changed my primary's res to 1024x768, started the game and it started in seconds.  Then I exited the game, turned on seconard monitor and changed res back to 1440x900, then started the game and it works fine now.

There seems to be something between fresh installs and primary monitor resolution.

My specs:

AMD X2 4200+, 2GB Ram, GeForce 7300 GS, Win XP SP3
