Opera Software on Thursday (December 4) offered the first look at Opera 10, which the company is touting as much faster than previous generations.

The alpha version of the Web browser, available for download at the Opera site, gives people a sneak peek at the browser's Presto 2.2 rendering engine, which will be the foundation of all future Opera 10 products. The new engine delivers a 30% faster browsing experience as compared with Presto 2.1 introduced in Opera 9.5 in June.

Thanks for the info, Himangshu! I use Opera because FF3 has been kinda slow lately. A faster Opera is good news but installing an alpha is asking for trouble, in my opinion.

Of course, I'm also waiting for the final version. I'm also an Opera user. I use Opera even on Linux platform.

I use the alpha and it works like a charm :-)

It has a few problems with some javascript stuff but aside from that it is fast, displays everything correctly and is pretty low on memory consumption.

Nice to see you people are using it.

But, one thing all of should remember that alpha software is a first release of a software product that is usually tested only by the developers.

So, just install it either for testing or to give it a try. Don't use it as a regular browser. Because, security holes are still there.

An Alpha Release of a new version is not really comparable to an alpha release to new program.

Firefox suffers from being open source when it comes to security, Microsofts IE has actually no good excuse.

I agree. But, read it. It's from Opera developers -

  • WARNING: This is an alpha version of Opera: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all. Please use it only on properly backed up computers and do not install over previous Opera versions.

Now you decide what to do.

ive removed opera altogether. i ran into this weird glitch. after switching from FF to opera, my original acct log ins couldnt be accessed and had to create new accts..but few forums were no problem. but after returned back to FF, np.
