I'd start with updating your video drivers.  Check this page for newer drivers:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_178.24_whql.html

I can't seem to figure out which X-Fi sound card you got, but I'm sure those could get an upgrade as well since they arealso from 2005.  Go here and select the exact card you got to get the drivers for that:

http://support.creative.com/products/product_list.aspx?catid=1&catname=sound+blaster#

Those two are my first guess's as to the problem.
