Secon problem - Today for some reason the game dropdown menu worked (once and once only) and low and behold there is no option for Galactic Civilizations Ultimate Edition to map my serial to?

Whats the story anyone?

Is there a  "galciv2 ultimate bundle" ? you might try that if you find it

Ah, the Kalypso version. I'm not sure what's happening with that update yet.

Yeah - the English version of "Galactic civilizations II:Ultimate Edition" published by Kalypso - cannot registar it or update. Bought from www.play.com which is UK based
If you find out when this will be looked at would you let us know on the forum?
I'm still enjoying the version I bought though but would love to be able to update it.

Play.com is based in Jersey actually. I also have the Ultimate Edition and everyone with that edition is having problems with updating. There's another thread regarding it close to this one. I think it will be sorted out eventually but at the moment, from what I've read, Kalypso are supposedly responsible for any updates in relation to the Ultimate Edition but i'm sure there will be a solution sometime soon.

Someone better tell them that then.

Getting Updates
---------------
Please use Stardock Impulse (Programs / Stardock / Impulse in your
Start menu) to download updates. Impulse can also be downloaded from
http://www.impulsedriven.com.

You will need to create a free Impulse account (or use your existing Stardock.net
account prior to being able to download the updates. Make sure you have the serial
number from your jewel case handy as well, as that will also be required.

I've also had an e-mail from Stardock saying that Stardock will be sorting it out.

I'm just going by a post in another thread where someone received an email from Stardock saying that Kalypso were responsible. Don't shoot the messenger ;)

I wish someone would sort this out!! I received the following e-mail from Stardock support on 3rd December - it is not particularly helpful as you can see, given that Kalypso do not even have the Ultimate Edition listed on their website.  Providing a game without support or access to patches without stating this on the box is tantamount to theft.

This is my first experience of a Stardock game and it hasn't been a good one so far....

Hello,

The Ultimate Edition is not to be registered within Impulse, or Stardock Central. All updates and support for UE will be handled by Kalypso, there are no updates at this time.

Sorry, that might have come across a bit harsh.

The bit I quoted is actually from the readme in the Kalypso set up folder, so someone somewhere seems to have got their wires crossed.

Since the Ult. Ed. installs Impulse along with the game AND the "update" buttons of the Ult. Ed. Launchers start Impulse AND the manual reads that updates are to be made using Impulse, it was safe to assume that the game was supported by Stardock and not Kalypso :\

You'd think so but if it were that simple there wouldn't be a problem would there but the serials for the UE still aren't working. If it were that simple we'd already be patched up. Reading the email Paul received from Stardock there is certainly still some confusion. Their staff are pointing customers in the direction of Kalypso so it is still a rather confusing time. Not only do we not know what's going on but neither do Stardock staff it seems ;)

I'm sure Stardock will sort it out though. I did pop over to the Kalypso forum but they are a German company and the support forum is in German. No threads regarding the Ultimate Edition though and no Sub forums for Galactic Civ 2 at all.

I think stardock would just need to publish themselves in europe...

it's not the first time I hear about such problems with localized versions ...

that's one of the reasons why being french I still prefer to buy original english games (the other reason being the bad translations/voices in some cases...)

Support is just going off the terms of the deal with Kalypso. Seems things are not working out as agreed upon initially.

In any case, registration is linked with the availability of the game in Impulse. The serials are not invalid or anything like that, we just can't enable registration in Impulse until the game itself is put into Impulse. And that part is waiting on some localization issues being sorted out.

I received my copy 2 days ago and have the same question. Is the UE going to be available and patchable through impulse in the next few days?

I would like to start the campaign but if there is a major patch around the corner, I would rather wait.

I got mine through Amazon.co.uk, went back just now to see if it was sent through there Jersey service and it now says

"Currently unavailable.
We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock"

Also I noticed that the serial number sticker says 'serial number' in German.

If you goto www.kalypsomedia.com and goto the 'all products' page and click the Ultimate Edition link you get there own custom 404 page for http://www.kalypsomedia.com/en/games/ultimate/index.shtml

I sent the following email to Kalypso on the 31st of December.

I received Galactic Civilizations II Ultimate edition, as a Christmas present. But I have found that I have been unable to update the game, via Impulse, as the game is not currently supported. There is currently a big discussion going on in the Impulse Forum, about this game not being supported for updates. I would just like to know that something is being done to rectify this problem, as we have had no official response from Stardock or from the Impulse team. I do realize that it is the holiday period, but It would be nice if someone could just tell us what is happening.

I cannot play the game at the moment, as I keep getting very frequent CTD’s, which I’m hoping that the patch will fix, so please can you let myself and many hundreds of other people know what is going on.

Many thanks.

Still not had any response from them. I think this is getting a bit silly now.
