I think the AI has improved considerably!

Before the 1.1 patch I hardly played the game because if I tried to play the AI, it was absolutely no challenge.  The AI would hardly build ships, build almost no capital ships, and never attack, and sometime not expand well.

Well I played a game against a normal AI with the 1.1 patch, just to test things out, and I was impressed with the improvement.  The AI built multiple capital ships, expanded to all of the planets I hadn't touched, and built sizable fleets.  They even used some tactics.  For instance I sent my fleet to attack their homeworld and while my own was relatively undefended some reapers jumped to my homeworld and bombarded it.  In addition, they took an indirect route to one of my outposts, attacked it with a huge fleet, and event timed the attack to when the pirates would arrive there.  In one battle, their fleet was being decimated, they retreated back to their capital ship factory where a new cap ship was emerging, regrouped and then attacked with the new cap ship in the lead.

Overall I am very pleased!

Yepyep, the AI is much improved. And to add icing on the cake, IC said they did a major rewrite of the AI for Entrenchment so it can play nicely with all the new toys and tactics. :)

Did you ever notice that "Ironclad Online" button and wonder what it was about?  It's the magic button that unlocks the real Sins game.  It leads you to games that are much more intense, more interesting, and far more challenging than anything the AI can ever offer you.

Anyone who really enjoys Sins should learn about the magic Ironclad Online button.  What's really sad is that so few people know about it or at least that so few people (chickens?) have a desire to press it.

I don't press it because I don't feel I'm ready to get my ass kicked tet - let me carebear it for a few more weeks first :P

I don't play online because there is no matching/rating system.... no way for a bunch of beginner/moderate experience users to find each other and exclude the "pros"....  I'd like to play with people closer to my own experience level online, not just a bunch of sharks looking for bait.

Without wanting to be rude - you won't improve playing with people at your level (as my Dad used to say when I was a kid). You need to play with/against better players to learn from them (watch replays for that). The "pros" will often make sure the teams are competitive before launching - e.g. 2 pros, 1 intermediate + 1 beginer vs 4 intermediate or some similar combination...

I promise I will try and pop on tonight for a mittle multiplayer so I can get my ass kicked a bit.

Centurion, could you please stop ranting about how singleplayer isn't the 'real' Sins experience and how we're chickens for playing it?  This is at least the 2nd thread you've crapped up with such nonsense.

Multiplayer is great and I'm glad you and others enjoy it.  I do as well when my friends have time to play.  When they don't, singleplayer is there for me to enjoy, especially when I don't know how much time I'm going to have to play and might need to drop at any moment.

I don't play mulitplayer because there is no pause button in multiplayer.  I can't easily sit and focus on a game for the whole time when I may need to get up at any time to help the kids with something.

I have also found that pros playing against relative "newbs" don't have much fun, and they're more likely to quit when there is no challenge to the game.

sign.

mp is great, no question, but that neither means that sp is bad, nor that every sins player has to go online with an uncanny drive to become better all the time. playing is about enjoyment and that means different things for different people.

Not strictly true - the game CAN be paused, up to 10 times per game. However, other people can unpause it for you...
