Umm yo Impulse, that's the wrong folder.

Impulse is putting Twightlight of the Arnor 2.0 into the wrong folder.

Ok so I updated Dark Avatar and ToA to 2.0, tried to play it but it complained that my Dark avatar wasn't up to date. 8C so I checked it and sure enough Dark Avatar was showing 2.00 on the little version number inthe corner of the screen...hmmm.:| I open my GalCiv2 folder and to my surprise the updater hadn't installed ToA to the ../Twightlight sub-folder, it had installed it to my main GalCiv2 folder! :(O   Dubbya Tee Eff Bee Bee Que. I've spent most of the night comparing files to see which ones are newer and moving them tot he proper folder, i'm not sure how this happened either, I haven't investigated the WHY of it, but now I know what my problem is. I'm probably going to end up uninstalling and starting over from scratch.

you're not the only this happened rest assured ... I think the devs are pulling their heads off to fix those issues X|

Anyway... I wonder if the culprit of the problem is the fact that DA & TA path registry keys are relative instead of absolute ...

for DA for example

Code: C++
  1. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Stardock\Drengin.net\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar]
  2. "Exe"="DarkAvatar\\DALaunch.exe"

as everyone can see the path is relative to galciv2 path ... (otherwise it would be something like "Exe"="C:\\SomeDirectoryHere\\Galciv2\\DarkAvatar\\DALaunch.exe")

I had to start over from scratch unfortunately, wasted my time re-downloading the main GalCivII game instead of playing it. Upon further investigation it appears that the 2.0 patch is indeed imcompatible with the older Retail CD version of GalCivII since it installs into a different folder than what the patch is looking for.

Also I had fun re-installing the game because it kept putting the game on my System drive (C:\), which is a big no-no, my games and apps are on drives D-J, I like to keep a clean system drive, makes backing up the system easier. I corrected this problem by finding the folder options in prefrences and setting the drive paths where I wanted software installed.
