TA 2.0 Research Bug

It's happening again....

 

I'm playing as the Korath. I view my research options. Enhanced miniturization will take 14 turns, so I decide to focus on missle defenses. I research up to the third or fouth missle defense, and then decide to do enhanced miniturization.

Somehow, it jumped from 14 to 21 turns.

I didn't change my research rate. i didn't change any priority settings on the planets.

 

Anyone else experience this?

While a 50% increase is...high...to my knowledge, research costs still inflate as other techs are researched.  This may be a side effect of military techs having an additional modifier in 2.0 that makes them cost more (and may also cause them to increase inflation faster, though I personally have not tested that aspect of it).

When you say third or fourth missile defense, what tech specifically do you mean?  I'm unaware if you're speaking in absolute terms, i.e. three techs down the missile line (ECM?), or relative, for instance, three or four tiers down the missile line-not counting Chaff, this could put you as far as Droid Sentries.  That's a fairly large difference, so would you care to elaborate?

Additionally, could you right click and verify that the cost has indeed increased by 50%?  Do you have any research treaties with minors or majors?  This influences your research "rate" as well, and if they decide to turn down their research output for a few turns, it can hurt-especially if you're not doing that much researching yourself.

One other thing to check that may be obvious (as it would have other, more far-reaching side effects) is to ensure that you have not somehow been hit by the plague, as this reduces all abilities to zero, and if you have/had any research bonus, it will be nullified for the duration.

I didn't realize that tech inflation was intentionally built into the game. The last I heard, it was a bug. Tech inflation either forces you to stay along a single research path, or constantly change research paths each turn.

I don't like it....

Tech inflation used to increase by ~2-5% per tech researched, more for trees researched, and cap at ~170% inflation (for ~270% total cost).  Additionally, somewhere along the lines of the first 30-50 techs used to be inflation-free.  But that doesn't appear to be what is happening here.

Well if you only got to ECM before seeing this change then something is up, but it's difficult to say what.  If you could pay attention to the actual tech cost and see if you can manage to get this again, that would be helpful.  I'll be firing up a game shortly myself to see if I can track it down, but I've got a lot on my plate as well.
