TA, The French must be running the Terrans

2 Games in a row now, I'm playing the Yor and the Terrans are not using weapons on thier ships.

The first game, they were next to me.  So I jumped into attack mode and slaughtered them.  Even after dozens of turns, they never bothered to put a weapon on a ship.  They had defense, but nothing to attack.

At first I thought it was some clever trick to have the ships, and then upgrade them.  But they never did anything.  Worse, they kept building them as I slaughtered them.

Now the second game, I realize it must be a bug.  This time, the humans took about 40% of the map in colonizing and I was no where near them.  About 2 yrs into the game, and guess what?  They have no military might.  I go looking, and once again they have defense but no offense.  It's going to be a slaughter once again.  The only question is how do I manage the slaughter.

So is this common in TA that the human AI is basically just fodder?

(Oh, and both games were at maso, using the newest TA that is not BETA)

I don't think it's a bug. even in the Beta they do the same thing but think about it the Terrens are diplomats. they would much prefer to talk with you to stop you from attacking them than actually attacking you themselves. I think it's great that they don't build weapons at all but I think that if someone attacks them they should reaserch weapons. sometimes I give them space weapons just so they won't get creamed by a powerful civilization and change the balance of power in the galaxy. But it is'nt just the terrens if you pay attention the Drath, and the Altarians all reasearch "space Weapons" much much slower than any other civilization.

So this is normal?

Why build a ship with defense without a single point of offense?  You can't win. How is that a valid strategy?

How many more updates can we expect before something as basic as this gets resolved?

Were you seeing ships with defense and no weapons in fleets or just parked around planets?

I reported as a bug during the ToA Beta seeing planetary defenders with defenses and no weapons.  It might make sense to buy and launch a very cheap ship consisting of only a tiny hull to block unarmed troop transports lacking an armed escort; however, adding lots of defense only increases the cost and won't stop an attack ship with a basic weapon (even a ship with high defense will during a battle eventually roll a low defense and take damage).  This behavior was not limited to the Terrans, as I seem to recall the Drath do this as well.  I might be all AIs or all AIs based on the Terrans.

Probably an AI conflict of interest between building no attack, no defense planetary defenders and a desire to focus their ships around some theme (may be defense).  It's also possible in some instances that the AI in question has no weapons because they simply haven't bothered to research them.

I would actually expect something of this type to occur given TA's differences from DA (namely the tech trees), but I would also expect it to first of all have already been fixed and secondly to not have been visible on the Terrans in the first place.

My (un)educated guess is that the Terrans in question are using an AI of a different civ-whether or not it is labeled as such, but this seems too simple to be the case.

top vasari is incorrect; just because something has not yet been fixed does not mean it is not a bug, which this most certainly is.

End of quote

Parked in orbit, all defense, no offense.

In this second game I took about 3/4 of thier planets before they built a single ship with a weapon.  It seemed they were stuck in "constructor" mode.  They had hordes of them and would try to repeatedly rebuild a starbase while my battleships just used them for target practice.

What's really sad is this was at least 2 yrs into the game, and they had a lot of planets and a good tech run.  I suppose I should check the error log to see what they had researched and when.

So the question remains, how often does this happen?
