Endgame: Can it be shortened/improved?

I struggle with being interested during the end games. It seems to be my experience that the end game becomes a matter of waiting out the turns until I could fill up a Combat Transport, then repeat until a captured a planet, then repeat again ad infinitum. It's a bit of a downer on an otherwise incredibly entertaining game.

Perhaps it is my style of play only, and if so, are there any pointers for making the end game at least quicker?

Thanks folks,
Anx

Perhaps you could win by another method? Sounds like you are trying to win via military only. There are 3 other ways to win, beside that way.

Try building a couple of terror stars filled with culture improvements and take planets that way (watch their star systems defect one by one)! Either that or use them to extend your influence to 90% of the map to win. Or just use them to blow up their star systems.

Another way to win is to get alliances with all the major races (the remaining ones anyway).

The last way is to reseach to the end of the tech tree.

Yes, the end game gets to be a nightmare the larger map you choose. I don't think the game is balanced for Huge or Gigantic maps, for example. You run through all the tech, and it takes forever to get across the map to take over those last few planets, etc.

So I hope the x-pack will address these kinds of core issues...

I'm hoping at that point they introduce the idea of stargates or permanent wormholes (ones that stay around after you move on to them).

If we had the permanent wormholes that anyone could use, that would certainly put a new wrinking into the strategy.

Let's say that they don't include static wormholes because of balancing/AI issues, how about an alternative approach such as orbital bombardment?

What I am getting at is that it is arduous to keep sending tons of colony ships to a planet that you really don't want to colonize because you are effectively just trying to 'clean up' to get to a formal victory.

I suppose that would also cause some problems as right now invasions are only tenable if you have the population available for transport. That puts a constraint to the ease in which an invasion occurs.

Hmmmmm...

Culture Victory should be moved back to 7/8.

Rename Military Victory to Domination Victory, and move it to 3/4 of all galactic production.

Give Alliance Victory when your Alliance has Domination Victory.

That should reduce tedium considerably. :)

Coffeedragon: that would be nice, but I also want the option to continue playing after I reach those victory conditions. I might wanna take those overlords for a test drive :D

Orbital bombardment is coming in either a patch or that expansion pack they announced in E3...so bombardment will definitely be in
