ObjectDock Plus or Object Desktop Ultimate?

I posted this in ObjectDock as well

I have both ObjectDock Plus and Object Desktop Ultimate.  I've been using just ObjectDock Plus and only Drive Scan from Object Desktop Ultimate.  But now, as I posted earlier today, I'm have troubles with ObjectDock Plus.  So, I'm wondering, am I missing anything by not really using Object Desktop Ultimate?  Does it give me anything that makes Object Dock Plus unneccesary?  Should I simply use more of Object Desktop Ultimate?  I really like Object Dock Plus, but with the system tray icons suddenly not working for me, I'm second guessing my use of these programs.  How do others here who own both sets of programs use them?

The System Tray Icon problem is something that just happen.  Seems it has hit everyone.

ObjectDock Plus and Object Desktop Ultimate are two very different producits.  I use both, ObjecDock Plus for the docks, which allow me to have a very clean desktop and Object Desktop Ultimate which provides many different tools to change and enhance the desktop environment.

Oh, and yes you are missing alot.

EDIT: I see in your other post that you also are using MyColors.  You got hooked on this stuff didn't you!  Just like the rest of us.

Also, only one post is needed.

Start using Window Blinds and Icon Packager.  You can get an idea of how to use Object Desktop by running the Object Desktop Launcher and trying the out component programs.  Have you looked at the Screen Shots gallery to see what others are doing?

Thanks.  I posted in two areas because I thought maybe the other area would have primarily Object Dock folks, and few Object Desktop folks, what I boviously wanted was both.

What is a bit odd here is I've actually been an Object Desktop user since the OS/2 beta, back I think in 1994.  I used it for years and years (moving to the Windows version when I dropped OS/2), but stopped once I went to the 64 bit version of Vista Ultimate.  I very recently renewed my subscription, but as I said have only used Drive Scan so far.  I too like a clean desktop, which is why I have been using ObjectDock Plus (and liking it very much).  I'll have to look at more screen shots to see what else appeals to me as a Vista user.  Again, as a rule I like a clean desktop (1920x1200), maybe a clock or weather app type of thing, but little to nothing else.    I hope this post answers BigDog too.

Ya, it does.  Since I recommended Icon Packager to you I thought I should pass this along.  I've seen mixed reviews regarding Icon Packager with Vista Ultimate 64 bit installs.  Some users have reported numerous icons being changed to the generic unknown file type icon(blank page image) and not being able to correct the problem.   I don't have the OS, I use XP SP3 so I don't know if this is still an outstanding problem.  I think it might be.

I do have another question.  My daughter is getting into graphics design, she's been learning Photoshop.  She's interested in making mods for these products.  Is this something that would take her much time to learn?  And where should she look to get started?  Her dream would be to make something as slick as the Harley desktop I purchased, but I'm sure something like that takes quite a lot of time.  Still, she does seem to have the talent for this, and I say this as a guy who has been in tech for close to 25 years, and has a friend who is a darn good graphic artist.       Would it be wise for me to post this question elsewhere?

Your initial question here regarding skinning is fine.  I don't do very much with skinning.  I'm not very artistic.  In any case, the challenge is first learning the graphics aspect.

She could try doing some Icons.  They can be posted as PNG files or ICO files, some people provide both file types.  She could try making a smaller scale skin like some Object Dock backgrounds.  The larger projects are Icon Packager packages which require lots of graphics work and Window Blinds which requires lots of graphics work and learning SKS (Skin Studio).

So, if she's good with graphics and enjoys that kind of endeavor and she likes desktop customization, she'll find plenty of enjoyment from skinning.

Here's a link to the WC Wiki a good place to get started.
